Urgent Help
Hey guys, you might know that I've been looking around for a good single wall top for almost a year now. There is one on ebay right now that is up to $860. Looks like it may go higher too (ends Sat. 4pm).
The only way I would consider that much money would be if the top was in excellent condition. I asked the seller for more pics, responded he didn't have anymore. Asked him for address to see it in person about 5 days ago, no answer. So I'm stuck - if it is honestly a great top I don't want it to slip by. But I don't want to get ripped off either. So if anyone out ther can help with advise, or if you have any info on this top, let me know. THANKS - Simon here is the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT Last edited by crzngmychvy; 01-21-2005 at 03:29 PM. Reason: more info |

Wow, 22 bids and $860! I think I'd be leary about buying a top that expensive if the seller won't respond to your e-mails. Honestly, with the number of bids and the current price, I'm sure it has recieved more response than he expected so he has no motivation to e-mail you a location to view it. I'd guess you're either going to have to take a chance and go with it or pass it up.
I can't believe that you are having this hard a time finding a top in Cali. A couple years ago there were several guys on CK5 that were giving their tops away. If you don't get this one, you should drop the $25 for a CK5.com membership and post a "wanted" thread every other week or so. The guys who 4x their trucks hard on that board often ditch their tops and just run soft tops. Heck, for $800, I may consider selling the singlewall top for my '69.

I actually thought of you when I saw that top a while ago...
I would expect to pay about $500-$700 for a decent top in good shape... The higher price seems reasonable for a perfect top with brand new rubber and seals, but again I would expect a show worthy top, and you can't judge by those pictures. 50/50 You have been looking for a top for quite a while now, that's for sure, and I'm sure it would be tough to let a nice single wall top go. Others will come along though, with sellers more willing to work with you. You just have to be patient as you have been, and you will get the right top. Either way, good luck!

If you are going to pick up the top then bid on it and go see it. Also email ebay customer service they respond quick and see what you have as far as protection. About 1/2 of that $860 or more is because of that hatch it appears to be in very good shape Good Luck

If they are worth that much I better grab a couple that are kicking around here. Sounds like a lot to me!

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I decided not to bid on it at all. It sold for $960. Too high I think, the seller sent me some pics after all, and it was in pretty good shape, but not good enough to put down that kind of cash. Well, if any of you has a good single wall out there not too far from socal let me know and we can make a deal.
One thing I wanted to ask was if any of you noticed how the early bids that pushed up the price came from buyers with little or no feedback #'s. Am I cynical or does that seem fishy? |
