Ok guys, got the 502, and the tranny. There is a guy in the city who can build the tranny to handle the 585 ftlbs of torque this beast puts out, the question is the rear end.. I have a new 3.73 posi to put in, what about the axels?? Or should I just change the rear end to something else, input please???? The other option is puttin in a 6 speed instead of the auto.

I'll bet you can't ever get it to hook up hard enough to break a stock axle. Traction will be the biggest issue.

T56 would be super slick and work welll with the 3.73 gears.

If you stay with the auto, you're looking at the 3.06 1st gear of the trans, multiplied by 3.73 diff gears, multiplied by massive torque of the 502. You're going to have trouble keeping tires on that puppy. 3.08 to 3.42 gears might be a better combo. Moser or Currie make nice diffs, but expensive.

So how are you shifting the 4L60E since it's electronically controlled? Curious as to what your using for this.

Its probably not a 4l60e, if the last post is true, I was using it in my s10 blazer witha 350. A vey long story of how I acquired the tranny, came out of a stolen truck with many other stolen parts,(not from me stealing it) found this out long after I had bought the engine and tranny

Got a 502 HO in my truck with 3.07 with Eaton Posi and turbo 400. Works great(will not hook up hard enough to break anything.)

Classicchev, in what model truck is the RamJet502 going?

For fun driving and towing, use a 6-speed manual. A Richmond 6-speed would be strong, lightweight, and it has a great shifter. Do a search on "Richmond 6-speed" to see another board member's install pics.

For drag racing, probably use the auto though I'd love to be able to see you try different r&p gears, posis, and launching combos with a 6-speed just to learn what brings the best time for your truck. Anybody can throw in an auto and press the gas. (I know, there's more to draggin' with a slushbox. I don't care. I hate autos.

I have a new set of moser axles for sale. I have a complete rear end with ALL new internals from a Eaton Posi to axles and gear etc etc. Let me know if you have interest came from a 83 1/2 ton truck. Should fit your rear if you have 10 bolt 8.5" unit. Thanks Eric

Phantom. sounds interesting, all my posi stuff needs to be installed, and unfortunately the guy I bought the Jimmy from removed the internals, aALL THE INTERNALS. I have no original caps ,spacers , nothing. I was adviced to find another rear end to put the new posi stuff in. What do you have for brakes, I'm wanting to change to disks. There is another rear end with posi/disks for sale, im just not sure of the axels.
What are you looking to get for it, shipping will be high, paid 265 to have my engine shipped, so it cant be any worse than that.

4x4 poet. A 72 2wd Jimmy, yah I would like to shift my own gears, still a option.

I would think any ring and pinion service shop would have used caps for cheap. Heck, new caps can't be that expensive. Cap & bolts should also be readily available locally or from gear suppliers like Randy's Ring & Pinion or West Coast Differentials. Wrecking yards are another option as long as used caps show no signs of carrier slippage like a spun race. Doesn't Calgary have some good shops to help you out with what's missing? Everything else should come in a R&P master rebuild kit as long as you ask for shims, never crush sleeves.

Oh, and I don't really hate autos. As long as they're not in any of my trucks.

I'm slowly purging my "fleet" of either slushboxes or the trucks that have them.

You know what? I don't know exactly which axle 2wd K5s came with. 10-bolt or 12-bolt corporate?

BTW, I forgot to say I envy your engine acquisition.

I would love a RamJet for my K20. Or maybe the RamJet fuel/intake setup for a 427.

When you get your truck set up with the RamJet and whatever tranny and posi choices you make, I hope you start a thread to speak of how it worked out on the track or even just in general.

Sounds like you should pull the rear out of the ochre truck(it is a 3.08,isn't it?), get some axles and use the posi if it is compatible.
