fuel pump suggestions
Hi I recently posted a thread on my truck running awful and discovered that the fuel pump was the culprit, I decided to upgrade to the "Holley blue" electric fuel pump and was wondering how connect the wiring. I was thinking of splicing into the "HOT" wire I have on the fuse panel for my H.E.I. I think the terminal was "unfused" will this work or should I go to another location? or place a toggle switch somewhere for theft detterant (sp.?)

what are you running for an engine. unless its something sucking a lot of fuel you have no need for a blew pump. i drive my truck daily and i have one but you will need to replace it about every 9 months or so because the teflon seal inside wears out and the pump leaks internally the pumps are not serviceable so basically you have to buy a new one. holley doesnt even make the lower housing anymore to fix the leak

and also wire the pump to a relay with a fuse it needs to be fused if it shorts out your asking for a fire do not wire it in with something else unless you want an electrical fire

If you haven't bought it yet and can go mechanical, I went with an Edelbrock and am happy with it. FWIW.

I have both a High volume manual pump, and the Holley at the gas tank.. I have had too many electrics go bad through the years driving down the road with No Backup..
As far as the Electric goes, Buy a Switch that goes into your oil galley in the block. The Pump will not work if you loose Oil pressure and your engine will die. It's wired from your ignition through this switch, then to the Pump.. I believe you can buy them to shut off ( or start working) at different oil pressures, The one I have allows the fuel pump to work only above 40 pounds of pressure. |
