crate 327???? new as in GM or a rebuilt from someone? pretty sure there aren't any "new crate 327's" - but not positive.
go with a 383 - more low end (which is what you'll use most of anyway) torque gets you going...horsepower keeps you going on the top end always better to have torque in a street truck 327's are more of a "horsepower motor" cause they rev higher and "liven up" at a higher RPM than a 350 or 383 better yet just get a RamJet502 can't go wrong with Early Classic's or CCP's suspension stuff fuelcellguy from the board builds custom aluminum tanks...to fit under the bed if you want

Thanks
Yea I considered a 383. My brother just has been such a advocate for a 327. If I get a gas tank for the under the bed how hard is it going to be to move the gas cap from the cab? Any suggestions for the rear end?
Im sorry if this isnt the right place to put this stuff im new to the board Thanks Adam |

Adam you might wanna check out my '67 (web link below). PO had moved the tank, which had required filling the cab hole and re-working the rear fender to accept the filler. I like it except there's always some fuel spill at fill up if I aint careful.
He also installed a 4.3 Vortec V6 out of a '93 S10 Blazer. It has LOTS more torque than I expected. Although it's been perfect since I got it in Sept, I don't like early '90s computer control of my engine, so I'm dreaming of a small block 350 some day. |

Other things to consider:
Update brakes to power disc (and five lug) Power steering (if you dont' have it) New wireing harness. Also, many options for gas cap (thru bedfloor, thru wheelwell, side of bed with a gas door, thru side marker 68-72, gas cap thru rear stake pocket. I am almost done with my 67SWB, just finished making my bed wood out of teak, have a few more body panels to block sand, and then I start painting my truck. |

I'm not sure it you "want" to build the truck or just want the end result. You may want to check out the parts section and look for a complete truck with the stuff you want on it... be A LOT cheaper in the long run, especially if you won't be doing the work yourself. If you want to build the truck yourself, and you want the look of a 67, I'd suggest purchasing a 72 SWB truck with air conditioning, power disk brakes, etc and put a 68 nose on it. The 67-68 trucks were pretty plain jain and the 71-72 had much more desirable options. If you do buy a 67 you'd probably want power disk brakes and air. I put a 700R4 in my truck and it has a 350 and 3.73 rear-end. I think it's a good combo. Would work well with the 383 too! Good luck finding a truck!

thanks
Thanks for the info guys. I plan on doing most of the work myself with some help from my brothers. I haven't even thought about puting a 68 front clip on a 72 body. That sounds like a smarter plan. Is there an after market fuel injection system for a 383? I have watched my brothers scream at their carb and I dont want to deal with that. Thanks again for you info its really helped. I wouldnt mind a partialy restored truck but I want to do most of the work so I can say "I made that". You guys now what I mean...

Modern Options to think about:
-Air Conditioning, Tilt, Cruise (aftermarket) -Power Windows and remote locks (autoloc) -Updated seat (newertruck) -Sound deadening (brown bread, dynamat) -Autometer gauges
