Restored Black Seat Belt Style Console

This is a super nice restored black console that has been stripped down to the bare fiberglass and painted the correct satin semi gloss black, all of the nuts and bolts were either polished or painted and the chrome is in GC. this console is crack free, the ash tray has a small ding on the top but it is not that bad I have ordered a new ash tray from GM and will replace this one for what it cost me. I am asking 200.00 plus shipping as is or with the new ash tray 218.00 plus shipping. This one is very nice (The bow tie emblem has also been polished)

I have promised HeavyD first dibs on the console and will wait a day or so for his reply.

Console

What did you use to strip it all the way down to the fiberglass? I'm looking to do the same thing?

I use a product called tail strip made by bondo, it takes about 4 cans per console. I spray it on and let it sit for about 15 min. then take a scotch brite pad and rub it down, you will have to repeat this step several times before you get it completly stripped. This is the part that is very time consuming and the can of tail strip is about 4.50 per can. I will have about 30-35 bucks in stripper and paint then the time to do it. This is the best way that I have found to strip them, this is about my 20th console that I have done. (hope this helps you and you will have to use gloves) You can find tail strip at your local auto parts store.

Hey Thanks PT. I would sure appreciate it. My dealer is not plugged in on the old parts unless you come equipped with a part number. Thanks,
Mike

PT...where would one find that paint you used...and was it spray bomb...if not, can it be purchased as so?
Mine turned out OK, but it looks like cat crap compaired to yours. That is a fine job you have done there.

It is a match to the super close match to the GM part # that my buddy pulled up.
It is spray bomb Duplicolor semi gloss black (I think it is # 1603) but I am at work at the moment and will try to let you know the exact # in the morning. You can buy it in Advance. You want to spray it in a fairly warm place around 60 deg. or better , I have tried to spray it when it was a little colder and have got a milky look from it.

Hope this helps you PT

3940479 for the ashtray, got mine at the Truck shop in California, came in a GM box, $13

If anyone is looking to paint a console, I would recommend SEM Viynl and plastic paint. Landau Black is the color name for black, get the pre primer too. I have had very good results using this product, its great for door panels, Blazer door caps, seat belt retractor covers and seat back covers too.
