Power Booster Question- Dual Diaphram
Anybody replaced a single diaphram booster on a half ton with a dual diaphram booster? If yes, what was involved? Did the brakes work better?
Can power boosters go bad slowly, or do they just stop working? I have had a really tough time getting my brakes to panic stop. I just had the system checked and there is good pressure to all the wheel cylinders. The brake guy (well recommended) seems to think it's the power booster and recommends a dual diaphram booster. My booster checks out ok by me as it sinks a little when I turn the truck over and with the motor off it seems to hold pressure. Thanks!

It sounds like your present diaphram is working ok from the way you checked it out. Given the weight of the 4x4's I have always thought the dual diaphram
brake booster would be a good upgrade. We have used the dual booster on a two wheel drive and it does make stopping easier. It should not present too many problems to swap out the booster. They are a little thicker which moves the master cylinder forward and the master cylinder may have to be replaced with the 3/4 ton master cylinder. If your present master cylinder won't fit then the brake lines will have to be re worked when the new one is installed. WE used an existing 3/4 ton setup with the brake lines etc. There may be a dual diaphram available that will use your existing lines and master cylinder. Jim |

On my 70 C10 (witch is converted to dics up front)when I replaced the single with a duel It did stop better. I had to replace the the master to a 77 1/2 ton because the lenth of the rod exiting the power booster. works fine.
