Gee_Emm I looked at the 18,000 mile truck today

Here are some pictures. I have bigger ones that I can email you. The present owners had a notebook from the original owner. It covered the first 15 years if I remember right. The notebook looked authentic, the ink looked really old and most days had a varying shade of ink. Things in the notebook included oil changes, carb rebuilds, installing of the aftermarket parts, and he actually had the bottom of the truck steam cleaned a few times.
The original owner had the fog lights and spot lights added when he bought the truck. He had cruise, air shocks, and a hitch installed. The hitch was welded on. The tires on the tuck appeared to be original. The mirror did not have the mounting pad on the cab, did 69's have that? The interior was brown. The AC vents were painted brown, as well as the front of the dash (between the dash pad and windshield). That brown paint did have the rough finish like original paint. A PO had stuck woodgrain on the ash tray but I think it would come off. The PO had installed airshocks in the rear. There was a box of extra parts which included air cleaners, an oil filter element, hoses, etc. There was some sort of mallory ignition box under the hood. The PO had carpet installed on the inside of the tailgate which matched the interior carpet. There was also carpet on the kick panels and the lower door panels. Most of the trim looked really good. The piece below the gas filler looked a little rough, like gas had been spilled on it. The current owner had the piece to replace it. This is getting to be a long post. PM me if you want more info.
Shawn

It is an Ebay truck.
It was originally purchased in Cali by a Volkswagen dealer. He owned it until the 80's sometime. The 2nd owner bought it and owned it until the 90's sometime. Then the current owner bought it. The current owner was an employee of the 2nd owner. He brought it to South Dakota when he moved here.

The paint looks a little too smooth for that year of a truck. I'd be a little suspicious about that rocker panel picture. It's definitely nice truck though.

The paint did look good, but it did have a slight amount of orange peel. I think it is possible that most or all of the paint was original.

Yah but you would have to drive it in reverse the whole way here so you don't rack up the miles.

LONGHORN MAN,
Actually that rear view mirror "saddle color" pad is original for a 69. The reason I know this is my father actually bought new in 1969, a 1969 Longhorn with the same color exterior and interior as that truck..........and the pad IS there. Maybe it's a California thing...I don't know? But my fathers didn't have the headliner.

vinyl grain

Why does graining on headliner, door panels and visors bother me? Am I the only one?

Would also like to see ebay link or full size pics again.

69oldie...long time no see...how's that 50th longhorn coming along?

I wasn't actually refering to the brown cover on there, but where the mirror is bolted to. In '71, there was a raised portion on the metal where the mirror is mounted. It was a 71 only item, 69 and older was still an option, 70 they simply hadn't tooled up for it yet, and in 72, they went back to the smooth panel becouse they went to a glass mounted mirror.

There are a couple things there that make me wonder...but then again, we've proven on here that GM didn't always do everything just alike.
The orange wheels look out of place, as does the headliner as stated earlier.
Plus, there doesn't seem to be any storage wear on it.

Anyone who has pulled a vehicle out of a 20 year storage knows that everything rubber is dry rotted onless it was cleaned/maintained on a weekly basis (or so)

Even so, that is pretty much a time machine. I wonder what the reserve is, it's up to 15,000 and still not met

The wheels had obviously been painted orange later. There was a lighter color paint peeking out, either silver or white.

on the 16th and 18th pics just below the vent hose, there are 2 small holes for something, I've only seen one truck, no pic, with a chevy emblem put there. Is,what that an option? anybody else have a pic? That truck is sharp!

LONGHORN MAN,
"...69 and older was still and option,.."
What do you mean by this??
I personally have never seen a 1971 CAB. That is interesting to learn that GM did this to the 1971 cabs just for a rear view mirror....I guess you learn something new everyday.......That's what's nice about this truck board, all of the things I learn.
What I have seen in two different 1969 Longhorn's though was:
1. One was a Yellow colored CST Custom Camper 20 Longhorn (that I owned)with a rear view mounting bracket, with OUT that plastic cover. It actually was just a solid piece of metal w/ horizontal lines molded on the mounting surface of the mounting bracket with only one pivit point behind the mirror itself.
2 The other (my fathers...a "plain jane" Orange/red colored model C/20 Longhorn) was exactly like the one on this 1/2 ton 1969. The mirror being able to pivit behind the mirror as well being able to pivit on the cab mounting surface.
Maybe any 1969 truck that was a lower model than a CST, had that 2 pivit point mirror bracket????
As for my 1968 50th ed. Longhorn....I am STILL collecting NOS parts for it! I have now given up on saying when I am actually going to finish her up!......I hope sometime in my life!!!!!! Realisticly...I hope in the next few years.
P.S. Does Jeff still own his 1969 Longhorn...the nicely optioned one?
