Restamping dash tins?
Does anyone know who is capeable of doing this? Would like to get the tachometer hole stamped into some extras i have. I know a hole saw will work, but would like to get closer to original. Thanks...

Tach hole
I have been thinking about it myself. Have a buddy that owns a machine shop and was hoping he could do it. I haven't went by his shop lately but I plan on it this week or next. I'll let you know if I come up with something.

what if you cut a hole, and then put in a short piece of pipe?

I would think it wouldn't be a worthwhile project unless you plan on doing A LOT of them. In order for it to come out correctly, you are going to need have a male & a female die set made which isn't cheap. Then you will have to find someone with a press that will let you use it or at least do it for you.

Jerry Moss used to send dashes out for the vac gauge stamping. But only when he had several of them to do. Don't know who he used. You might PM him. He has not been on here much lately. Miss Jerry. Great guy.

Tach Stamping
I cut a non-gauge center ring out to fit in the tach spot. Looked like a skinny doughnut and fit in the recessed portion. Used a Dremel to cut out the tach location - doesn't have to be pretty as the doughnut covers it. The doughnut is pretty in the center and does not have to be pretty on the outside edge because the lens hides it. Only bad part is you have to sacrafice the non gauge cluster. I think I have still have to take a picture if you need it.
Good luck - Bob

A pic would be great. I have a few tins with the vac cutout, but no tach. Don't want to ruin them unless i know what i'm getting into. Thanks, Eric

hottweelz67, Let me ask this, is it cheaper to use my donor and have you punch it or buy one from you already punched? I have a tach tin with no vac and I would like the vac gauge. Do you in fact buy tins or trade them out?

because of tooling set up costs we only punch out our housings when we can do about 100-150. We do not have any with vac holes in them. If you get a non-tach w/ vac I can punch it for you, but I don't know how far out that may be. We do buy housings. we give a $20.00 credit if you purchase a tach conversion or $12.00 if you only want to trade in your housing for a new housing. Thank you, --JC |

Talked to my buddy today and he says no probelm, just have to see what the cost will be in making the die. May be cheap enough if we get a few done. I think he will work with me on this to keep the cost down. As soon as I get more info I'll let you guys know. As for the vac hole that would just be more cost and maybe bring the cost up. I'm checking into that as well. If the big boys can do it we can too.

hottweelz67, i called brothers today and they were not too helpful. Matter of fact i don't think he knew what i was talking about. Bottom line, do you know what it would cost outright to have 5 dash tins stamped with just a tach hole needed. if we could rustle up some board members to have some done, would that help with pricing? I appreciate any info, Thanks, Eric

too much stuff ---
Sorry our sales guy did not help you. I think the problem may have been that we don't usully sell them by themself (with out a tach conversion) and he may not have known that he could sell it. I don't know what the reason may have been. I do know that I can get what your looking for. If you can call back on Tuesday and ask for me (JC) I will make sure your taken care of and we can discuss it in further detail. price and qty needed or wanted. Once again sorry you were not helped earlier today. Thanks --JC |

Re: Restamping dash tins?
Yes, I was just trying to weigh out options. They all turned out to be about the same price.
