Long story, but I am probably going to be looking at a 70 4X4 1/2T over the weekend. What are things that are specific to this year that I should be looking for? I thought I read (on this board, where else?) that the '70 drums were an off year, and VERY hard to find/replace... Those are the kinds of things I'm looking for...

This isn't a truck I'm looking to keep, just helping somone out. So if there is interest, let me know about that also...

After reading the title of the post I was going to say the thing to look for is a 1971 or 1972. But I see you already know about the pre-71 front drum brakes.

If the 1970 is a keeper it isn't too hard to swap the front over to disk brakes. But I see you aren't going to keep it either.

Soooo
Look for rust in the usual places. Cab corners. Rockers. RF fender under the battery.

Put the transfer case in 4 high and drive it around. Put in 4 low and drive it around.

If its an automatic make sure it shifts ok.

Make sure the VIN on the B-pillar matches the title and the partial VIN on the top of the frame between the power steering gear and the engine mount.

If its AC equipped make sure the compressor turns on when you select AC.

I moved this over here because we have a great bunch of guys that know their stuff with these old 4x4's. Hope it helps to get ya more answers.

mrein3 hit the nail on the head when he wrote all that stuff up above. If it has mud on it clean it off to make sure it is n't hiding any rust, and if can check out the eninge oil and stuff to make sure its all looking good.
Well since you already know about the brakes I can't think of anything off the top of my head for that year of truck.

1969K10- Looking forward to seeing what condition it's in when you get it home. I've been looking for a 67-72 4x4 for a project. Please keep me updated if your selling it. Thank's Jason

The windshield area is a good place and hard to fix area for rust. Check it out real well and while u are at it check the cowl area and down around the vents.

I believe its the 3/4 70 4x4 front drums that are hard to find..i think the 70 1/2 ton 4x4 ones are easier to find.
