get a summit catalog, they have crane cam, accel, mallory, MSD, pertronix. But I'm sure you got to run a external coil or ignition box with them.
or you can convert you points dis with a module. summits number is 1.800.230.3030 |

Thanks Alexis. I dont mind a external coil as long as its not a points. I kinda like that old school look.

I had one on my carb'd 88 K2500. It was a Mallory ProBillet dist. Cost was around $290.00 back about 5 years ago. Finding a distributor cap locally was a nightmare. I did have to run an external coil with it(ran an MSD Blaster). It looked good but I didn't notice any difference between that and a curved HEI.

Skokie, I think you can retain your original points style dist but convert it to electronic with something like the Pertronix deal.

Poff. Is that a hei or hei type dizzy? Does it need a external coil? How do you hook it up? I dont mind the external coil setup. I looking for a kinda stock look. And that one looks like the best of both worlds.

you need a box to run it from - i.e. a MSD6 series or equivelent mallory.
I've haven't heard great reviews on Mallory stuff thought. there is a guy in Nevada that converts Points Dizzys into Electronic HEI dizzy's using a module and "trigger" style set up...you don't need a box, just an external coil (which would be normal for the "old school" look) if you want to run an ignition box he sets up up for the "trigger only". if you want no box he puts a module on the dizzy and you hook it up to the coil be prepared to wait awhile for your dizzy to get done though....(another guy on the board said he had his for 2months...and he's had mine for about 1.5months) Guess he's been sick/in the process of moving http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/

It's a magnetic triggered electronic distributor not HEI. I run a Mallory external coil. I got the coil that Mallory recomeded for that distributor. Hook up was easy, one wire to ground, one to each side of the coil. You can buy Proform HEI distributors from Sallee Chevrolet in Oregon for like $150. Proform makes GM's HEI distributors. http://www.salleechevrolet.com/frame.html I actually bought my buddy an HEI and traded him for the Mallory set up (my engine is too close to the firewall for HEI and I didn't want to dick with cutting or denting). The expensive part of the HEI is the pig-tail, it's like $35. Pertronix are good but for an extra $30-40 you should be able to get an HEI.
