Are 69-72 4x4 Blazer and 2x4 frames the same?
Ive been wanted to restore a 69-72 2wd Blazer but cant find a 2wd Blazer for a decent price. So Ive been thinking about doing a 2x4 convertion from a 4x4 Blazer. Is it a straight swap of front and rear axles to front suspention and a 2wd rear axle?

The front suspension is a direct swap, but you need everything off the donor truck including the steering box. You can use a 73-87 suspension as well....

My neighbor has done this swap a few times. He re-uses the stock rearend, just puts it on top of the leafsprings with a flip kit. That gets him a 5 or 6 inch rear drop and is cheap and easy.
If you're ever in North Texas and you see a 2wd 69-72 Blazer with leaf rear springs, there's a good chance my neighbor did it.

I did that conversion to a 4X4 I had. pretty straight forward 71 or 71 front crossmember, and steering box, and I think you have to shim the idler arm a bit. 2wd frame stands of right where it mounts 4x4 doesn't. Drill some holes. cut off leaf mounts. etc.... The only thing that sucks is no trailing arms. I'd try to find a 2wd frame at a junk yard.

My buddy converted his over from 4x4 to 4x2 and used the trailing arms from a truck.
