O/T Need help quick...94 Grand Am - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, my girlfriends car just started to chug funny, acts underpowered, but not missing, it runs fine, just sounds like a tractor kinda. i think the cat might be bad in it, but im not sure. the engine is also shaking more than normal, but like i said its not missing, just acts real doggy. what do you all think?

Well those things are notorious for blown head gaskets. Timing belts, fuel injectors, clogged cause shaking but still won't miss. The spray pattern is affected so that it is not uniform. Fuel pressure low(clogged filter, bad pump). Are there any codes. Dirty Mass Air flow sensors. These are some things that come to mind.

I have a friend that was having the same problem, it was a o2 sensor. check out grandamgt.com they should have some info for you too.

Btw. did the wheel get there yet?

Fuel filter. I had a '91 when I wa sin high school. Had the same response when stomping on the gas. @ 120k miles, fuel filter had never been replaced and caused the entire problem.

One shop in town tried to tell me the injectors were bad, another tried to tell me the ECU was going out. Both asked for $1200-$2500 to fix the problem. Only cost $8 for the new fuel filter.

Goes to shoe you that you can't trust anyone these days.
