Installing a non-GM seat
I found a set of very sweet seats out of a 96 Range Rover. Power everything, leather and most important, the right color. Only problem is figuring out the input wires to the seat computer. Ground is easy enough but there are 4 other wires that look like they might carry power. Does anyone have access to wire diagrams for the seats in these things?

I do, but not until the morning. what are the wire colors you have?
as for non GM seats I have a bench from a 89 F150 in Lefty & power buckets from a 90 Tbird in an 88 Grand Am. a guy at work has a 84 C10 with Caravan buckets. mounting just takes some fabrication but I believe GM has had the worst seats ever since about 77.

Seat COMPUTER? Uhhhh?? Other than maybe a power lumbar support, what elso do you have room in the cab to adjust? I have mine slammed against the back wall and it never gets moved. You gotta' post pics of this when you get it done.

Well at 5'3" I'm pretty short. Also i've been spoiled by the seat in my 00 Jimmy with leather heat etc. It looks like they used stepper motors so that's likely why the computer. The seats also have memory so maybe they did set it in each seat instead of using the vehicle computer. I agree once it's adjusted in I'll never move it. May come to this if I can't figure the computers out. Brits always did things a little different.
The big selling point for me was the color. Truck has a parchment/saddle interior and it's been difficult to find anything late model that isn't grey or tan. The price was right and I enjoy a challenge anyway. Mostly I just hope we can come up with a wiring diagram so I can make them work right, Will post pictures once I get everything figured out. |

I have all 7 pages of the wiring diagrams printed out from work. these are some rather elaborate seats. power headrest adjustment, dual memory for each seat etc.
later on tonight I can reply in depth after the baby goes to sleep. (he is sick with a 103 temp)

68C15, I sent you a PM. Also want to again Thank you for your help. Sounds like the seats have a lot more than I initially thought. Will be a lot of fun figuring them out.

Hi 68,
The diagrams just showed in the mail box about 20 min ago. Lots of good stuff. I hate to put you out any more effort but I see connections going direct from the switches to the seat motors in the diagrams but on these seats there is a computer that connects to the switches. The computer then connects to the motors. There are 4 relays on the computer's circuit board. I think these are memory seats so that might be where the difference is. My seats have all kinds of sensors around each motor as well. My thought is if I could figure out the inputs to the seat computer I'd be most of the way there. I think I figured out which ones are power and ground but my guess is the smaller ones are safety lock outs. Don't know if they can just be grounded or if they need to be tied to +12 (or?). The black with white stripe on the right seat also puzzles me. I 'll need to figure out the color codes as well. They don't make it easy do they? If you have any ideas please let me know. Again my sincere thanks |

look in the top right corner of the sheets I sent you. does that correctly describe the donor vehicle?

The description is correct. They came out of a 96 Range Rover 4.0, I notice on pages 2 and 5 it specifies non-memory seat. I've attached a picture of the controls. Wish I'd thought of this before but I didn't know they had different versions of power seats.
