Factory firewall markings
Well I had a few hours sunday, so I ripped that poor girl apart-(the GMC), and I was amazed to see some factory markings still on the firewall, I thought it was kinda kool.
I said my goodbyes to that gmc front clip, straight or not. I bought new fenders, tailgate, core support, doors, grille, for a 72 chevy at pomona yesterday. I still need a new grille surround |

I have never seen a black firewall from the factory before, my guess is the PO painted it and drew on it????

I have never seen marks like those I have seen an awful lot of trucks that have a glob of sealer on the drivers side under the cowl where the assembly line worker laid the sealer gun after sealing the windshield though. Factory marks are cool

Black truck would have a black firewall. The firewall was always the same color as the primary color of the cab. 72 dually check under the driver's seat and see if there is a number there. My 71 had 118 in 14/16 inch numerals written in the flat portion of the rear floor pan. Truck I am working on now had paint code written in yellow grease pencil on the front of the gas tank. 71 also had numbers on core support, 460 under the brake booster and model and vin across the drip gutter at top of the firewall. All of which by the way was in white grease pencil- one of the whitewall markers is pretty close to the correct flake off and width to replace the markings with. Harold

Yep, its a factory black truck, w/black interior, and black lower trim, its a 500, 600 code
I wiped down the floor with water and a old tee shirt, most of the surface rust ended up wipeing right off, I didnt see any other markings, other than what appears to be a 50 stamped on the cowl area, I took a picture. I did find the original posi decal on the passenger side, the tank has a sticker as well as CAL stamped on it in black, Im sure that was the california emmissions tank Last edited by 72dually; 03-08-2005 at 09:06 PM. |

My 68 has the markings CE 10904 still easily visible on the firewall.
I am glad this thread came up, I was curious about the markings. A buddy was trying to convience me that the front end might have been replaced and these were boneyard inventory markings. I did not know, but I knew the truck had only had the passenger door and front fender replaced.

Basically its your model number thats written on the firewall.
Hutch CE10734 is a plain model number Conventional Cab Eight cylinder 07 means 54 inch so its short wheel case and 34 is a fleetside box. Truckin Daddy same there too typically CE 10904 Conventional cab , Eight cylinder, 09 for cab to rear axle dimension of 59 inches..so its long wheel base..the 127 inch vaiety....04 is the step side fender box. I'm not sure what stamped 50 is 72 Dually's Gee Emm the number 555 is a code for two tone custom paint on your truck... the secondary color should be a medium tone of primary color. Bronze Dark and Bronze Medium respectively. Basically the shop workers are building a truck and write number on it to know what their building since they probably didn't have a glove box id sticker in the building stage...more probable and build sheet or order - something like that. 525 is the paint code for your Blazer BobbyK5, but I figure you knew that anway,b but code 525 is Bright Yellow in 1971. Odd to see Light Yellow written there.

My '72 had the numbers 661 (I think?) written in yellow grease pencil directly behind the engine.
