F/S Crane cam
I have a Crane cam for a SBC for sale. It is used, but I have only driven the truck for about 30 miles. It it just not the cam I wanted. I bought it as a kit, so it comes with new lifters. It is still in the truck, but I will pull it out if someone is really interested in buying it. The truck is just a weekend driver. I did the correct break-in procedure as per Crane. I just don't want to yank it out and leave it sit on the shelf if someone could use it. I paid $145.00 for the kit. I would like to get $90.00 plus shipping. I am in zip code 70037. Thats the same cam I just put in the 350 for my 84 C10. I really like it. I have a RV cam in my 69 short step and its tame. This crane cam has just enough lope @ idle and is very divable w/no effect on vaccume. It has a good pull too.

Yea, it is a good cam I just wanted something with a little more lope. Crane told me that this was the biggest with a stock stall converter. Which I found out is not true. I am going to try a 280.

You can reuse lifters as long as he marks them so when they are reinstalled they are on the same lobe that they were on before. It wont hurt anything!

I have just the cam, no lifters. I reused the lifters since I had so few miles on it. If you don't really know how many miles are on the cam and lifters, I would get new set. It is worth the extra effort. I knew mine was new, so I took the chance. No problems.

If its for the same block that the lifters and cams where broke in on. But If its not there will more likely than not cause a problem. Its really not a good practice to reuse lifters or camshafts but really used lifters that aren't mated to the same block or cam that it was broke-in with. Im not trying to mess up anyone's sales or anything like that but most of this stuff is commonly known stuff. See what everyone has to say over in the engine and drivetrain forum about it.

68Bowtie4x4-IF you were to get the cam, get a new set of lifters. You can get a good set for $40.00-$50.00, maybe even cheaper. Since you would have the engine tore apart, just through a new set in there. I swapped cams on the spur of the moment, so I didn't have a new set of lifters laying around.

Have to disagree with Mylilbowtie. The wear on the lifter that is important is the face surface of the lifter not the sides where it sits in the lifter bore. So as long as the cam and the original lifters are used together on the same lobes there is not a problem as stated before.

Lifter bores can influence the lifter but plays a smaller role in the contact. The bottom of the lifter and the cam is the most important. If the lifter doesn't rotate like it should its just going to wear the cam lobe to nothing if it isn't fixed. For 160.00 you can get a new camshaft and lifters, its not that much. Those can mess up also but a lot less likely verse used parts. When your down to one vehicle down time is a big pain. Especially when you have to fix things again that weren't done correctly in the first place. Camshafts can be used again without much trouble as used lifters.

This is my last post on this subject....But how can the lifter bore do anything to make the lifter not work in another block??

There isn't really anything else to say about it. Reread everything, I misunderstood and thought the sale included the lifters but this is not the case.
Lifters alone that come with the kit list at 88.98. That's 75% of the total cost of the cam and lifter kit itself and almost 30% more than the cam alone brand new sealed in box. |
