72 4x4

Just curious I have seen lately, several super 4x4's, with different emblem placement on the front fenders. Do any members have photos of an original 4x4 super w/correct emblems and placement? Appreciate all responces!

I think my avatar has one. Off my truck. It's a 72 Cheyenne Super 4x4 3/4 ton.

The 4x4 emblem should go under the front marker light in 72. Maybe I should research that a little more as I have seen mostly 69-70 that have the emblem such as in the pic below. Thought I read here that 71-72 didn't even use the 4x4 emblem. I know my 71 dosent have any 4x4 emblems but its been repainted....My 72 2wd had engine size badges where the pic shows the 4x4 emblem.

This pic ain't a cheyenne but same position.

I de-badged my '72 many years ago (but it was all OEM prior to that). It had no 4x4 emblems, and no emblems at all under the front marker light (as in the pic). I'm wondering if different trim packages or models etc came with different badging?

Edit: Thinking back, I believe it did have 350 badges under the marker light - but for sure no 4x4 badges. Gettin' to where I can't trust my memory anymore!

My findings

I'm with CPNE. It was definitly a 69/70 thing. Have thought about adding them to 72 for subtile conversation peice. I often like to check on others opinions. Those who notice are often well versed in these trucks and often more fun to talk with off the street.

My son tends to wear a hat in a college town from the opposing state rival located 45 minutes away. He gets a lot more coversation and ata- boys for being brave. Everyone wears the home town hat. Helps practice that character thing.

When I repainted my blazer, all the info I found said 71/72 had only the 350 emblem under marker lights on the fenders.

My suposed 'original' 70 has the 4 WHEEL DRIVE emblem though.

GMC's didn't have 4wheel drive emblems (with the possible exception of 1970), as with 4 headlights and that "stance" it didn't need to advertise.

69/70 Chevys did, 67/68 and 71/72 did not. Of course there are always exceptions, so consider this the 90/10 rule.

My 70 GMC Suburban 3/4 ton 4x4 has the 4x4 emblem there in same place as pictured. My 70 Chev Suburban 3/4 ton 4x4 had it there too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only way there should be a 4 wheel drive emblem is if it had a 307 or a v6 in it. If it came with a 350 it should have the 350 emblem under the light. I have never seen one that didn't have the engine designation under the cheyenne super emblem. They didn't come like that. The cheyenne super emblems should line up like IMDARREN's picture. There should be a 3/8" gap or so between the Cheyenne10/20 and the Super emblems..... and the Super should always go under the Cheyenne part of the emblem, and not under the ENNE10 on the driver's side like you think it would. Hope this helps. Trevor

I couldn't tell you what is correct or not for a 4x4 but here is what my truck has. I am the 3rd owner of this truck it is a 1972 Cheyenne Super all the #'s matching with 69,000 original miles the truck was repainted by the first owner some time ago. I would be surprised if he added the 4x4 emblems that are shown here just below the [8]350 emblems.

I have a '69 with 4x4 emblems under the marker light, although mounted too low(incorrectly mounted by P.O.) But I believe the statement that generally 69/70 trucks had the emblems placed there.

Never seen 'em on a 67/68, have seen 4x4 emblems on 71/72's but if they were on there they were mounted under "Custom/10" badge. Which is likely wrong?? Most cases 71/72 I haven't seen em on there tho. Most of the time an engine displacement badge was under the marker light for 71/72 IME.

As for GMC's I have never seen a possibly original example (in person)of a 4x4 to have an opinion as to which it was Original or Not to have 'em for any year 67-72...

This is an original '70 GMC K15. sorry bout the picture not being clear for the emblems, but. the 4-wheel drive emblem is under the marker. The side fender emblem is GMC /V-8 1500. This truck is stock with a 350

I can get another picture if you want it. This was just what I had on hand.

My truck seems to go with the 72 theme mentioned. It has a Custom-10 emblem where the Cheyenne would go and a separate Deluxe badge is below that, where the Super badge would go. The 8-350 badge is under the front markers. No 4x4 badge is present.
