I think there is a guy that sell the under the bumper rake on e-bay to fit our trucks. I saw one once but was not impressed.

neonlarry, do those spoilers replace the front bumper, hence the light holes for the GMC version? IOW, not an air dam that hangs down from the bumper?

Those go under the bumper and wrap around to the front fenders.

My neighbor had a 69 a couple years ago with an air dam. He said it was from a mid 80s truck. I have no idea how it was attached but I thought it looked pretty good.

Anyone think an airdam like the East Coast Custom ones will help the aerodynamics of our trucks? I would really like to see how one looks on them.

The main purpose of an air dam is to keep air from getting underneath the truck and causing the front end to get "light" at higher speeds. It also smooths the airflow around the bottom of the truck probably giving a little better mileage and top speed.

I used a GM air dam from a late 70/early 80 PU. The 1/2T has a very shallow dam but the 3/4 dam measures 5 1/4 tall. The width is very compatible with the 67/72 front bumper. I had to grind 2 areas of the dam to make it fit the bumper. The areas are on either side of the license plate area. It is fastened to the bumper with 8 bolts. The end brakets are part of the dam and provide quite a bit of support. I used the molded in mounting holes for the remaining spots.

An added benefit of the air dam is that it hides the lower control arm mount and bushing when viewed from the front. Makes the truck look lower and cleaner.

I bought this 6 or 7 years ago for under $30.00 at the dealer.

Do not grind through the lip on the top/back side as this lends support to the center area below the license plate.

Bob, what material is that airdam made of? How flexible? Yours looks great for a 2wd, but I'd like an airdam on my K20, so it must bend with the rocks, not crack. I probably need one made of thick, formed rubber. Hope I haven't hijacked a 2wd thread.

I don't know what GM used but it is fairly flexible. They may have a different one for 4X4. Try the dealer for a look see and maybe a different part.

i saw one at a show that the guy said came off of a dodge minivan...i dont know what year but i'm guessing the 91-95 or whatever range it was...fit pretty well

Thanks for the photos. That gives me some great ideas. I do like the way that will hide the front suspension and clean things up.
