88 to 98 straight axle swap?
There's a 91 3/4 4x4 forsale and thought it would be cool to have a straight axle in the front? I've seen pictures, but how hard is it? Is there kits or do you have to fab everything up yourself.

www.offroadunlimited.com is the best place to go, and they're abotu the only one with a bolt on kit.
www.pavementsucks.com has a bunch of guys who have done the swap, and i'm actually thinking of doing it myself to my 91 K1500. you need a Ford front axle to use the existing transfer case, or swap to a 89-91 Blazer or Suburban transfer case to use a Chevy front axle. i'm probably going to go with a Ford Hi Pinion Dana 44 if i do go through with it. also, you must run at least 6" of lift and crossover steering in order to do the swap. |

it would work, but you'll lose your speedo output, as it would be an NP208, your truck currently has a drivers side drop NP241 in it, and the 89-91 Burb and Blazers had the passenger side drop NP241, very easy to conver it. the NP241 is a better transfer case due to avalability of upgrade parts. heavier duty chains and slip yoke eliminator kits are two that come to mind. the NP241 also has a lower low range.

straight axle swap
I did my own swap made it a complete bolt on i run 4" springs from skyjacker .The hangers will give you 3" on top of what your springs are.you have to have flat top nuckles to do crossover steering and a pitman arm off a new model dodge. And its best to run heimjoints insted of tierod ends you can get more flex without binding.Off road unlimited wants a pretty penny for the kit and you barely get enough stuff to get started. i will put some more pic's of my truck with some close up's of the front axle.
