I am going to replace my waterpump and starter today. The PO had the temp sensor on the top port of the waterpump. I tried taking the plug off of the drivers side head to use like it should be, but I couldn't get it off. I am going to try again before I give up. Before I go to the auto store, would it be better to still use the port on the waterpump or get one of the water outlets with a port on them. If I use the w/o port, does anybody know off hand which part # to ask for??

I don't know what engine your running, but most Chevys have to temp sending unit in the head or intake manifold.

It is a 350. I couldn't remove the plug on the drivers side head and I am currently using the stock intake and it has no port on there for the water temp sensor or any other port...

My temp sensor is on the head. The hole in the thermostat housing is plugged on mine.

Here is where the temp gauge sits on mine (note the black wire with the white tip that sits under the orange fuel line for the carb):

I know putting a sensor on the head more accurate, but how about the water outlet??? Any opinions??? I'm sure it is better than the water pump.
