One of my top/windshield connections is just a gaping hole in the windshield frame......obviously the backing nut is gone........any ideas how to fix?

I got that problem too. When I get to it, I'll take the windshield out and weld a nut in place. I'd be interested if anyone has other ideas.

You try a threadsert.
I've got one of these kits and they work excellent.

Exactly what I used and it worked great. I welded up the "hole" in the top of the winshield (where the door rubber ends), marked for the seal, drilled and inserted the threadsert (we call 'em nutserts).

Well........the windshield does need replaced, perhaps when I do that I can tack a nut in there. That threadsert might work for now. Must kinda be like a wall anchor? Is it reuseable ie. the bolt can be removed and reinstalled bobbyk?

What the thread-sert does is become a threaded sleeve the bolt threads into.
It fastens like a rivit,sandwiching the metal between the thread-sert head and the bottom of the thread-sert that's pulled up.
The wall of the thread-sert collapses at a designed point.

I have the same problem with as one of the backing nuts is missing.
How did you end up fixing the problem?

Drill a small hole on each side of the existing hole.

Grind the top side and bottom side of the proper sized nut enough so it will slide through the hole. You may also need to shape your hole to the appropriate shape to get the nut through it (make it oval shaped).

tack weld some welding wire to the face of the nut and push it into the shaped hole while using the wire as a "handle".

Carefully bend the wire so that the nut is flush with the hole and spot weld it through the 2 holes drilled in step 1.

Fill in any sheet metal that was cut away to get the nut behind it with weld.

grind/sand/paint.

Haven't got around to doing mine yet. Is the threadsert/nutsert a re-useable, ie the bolt can be removed and reinstalled?
