What did you get done?
It's a little late but here we go anyway. I was on call the weekend so I spent most of it running the roads burning up over priced gasoline. I spent yesterday detailing my 02 Ford Harley F-150. I have a buyer flying in from Cali tomorrow to pick it up.
Yeah, I know it's a Ford but I'm still going to miss it. It's a dang nice truck, but when you have a buyer willing to pay your price it's time to say good-bye. What did you get done....

1) Changed the oil on my Burb. When I took out the filter, my handwriting on the filter said "July 31". Oooops. (Good thing it didn't get driven much). Changed the fuel filter. Fixed a leaky fuel line. Took off the running boards. Took off the cruise vacuum pot. Adjusted the vacuum modulator on the TH400 so I can get 3rd gear in town.
2) Dump run with my scrap metal. 3) Replaced the front box bolts on my Ford.

i went out looking for another project 122 to make some quick money on. but I soon found that the 300 dollar price tag went right along with the rusted out floor and rockers. been there done that....
I later took the 122 out for a nice drive and had some fun cutting up the back roads.

I moved and cleaned up my yard today. Got fertilizer down, better late than never, I guess. I also took some pictures of a lot of the spare parts that came off of my Blazer, and moved them out of the way.
Yesterday, a couple of friends had come up from Houston for a wedding, so I chauffered them around in search of an 86-87 Corvette with a 4+3 trans and a bronze interior. The one we found was a complete POS. After that, I came home, and did nothing. It was everything I thought it could be.

frame, front and rear axles blasted and now painted. Just won a pair of 3.42's on ebay, so I'm ready to assemble the rolling chassis when i get some ball joints for the knuckles on my 10 bolt. Front and rear springs are re-arched to stock specs, so i'm pretty excited. Now i get to build my engine and transmission crossmember from scratch, along with the turbo crossover pipe.

I yanked the old 250/3spd out of my 68 beater to make room for the V8/auto conversion. Another board member picked it up for his project truck on Sat am.
I still need to get the auto column mounted & locate an automatic trans c.member. I was hoping to get the door panels & dash painted for my 74 today but the high humidity put an end to that. I also possibly came across some used vortec heads w/rockers & covers for $250 shipped. What else is need for the vortec conversion besides the obvious intake swap?

The bed cover looks good. Got any construction/close-up pictures? What did you use to cover the top? The truck is looking really sharp too. Quote:
Sounds as like you got everything covered. I've heard others replace the pressed-in studs with threaded ARP studs. Some also perform a 3-angle valve job on them and set the quench to ~0.041. I guess you won't needed to go with a Vortec intake with an ERG.

I changed the oil on a couple of my cars this weekend. My wifes Mazda has to be raised up on ramps to get to the filter from underneath the car. I can barely even see it even then. The first time I hanged the oil, I had to look up the filter location in a book. I couldn't find it. Unbelievable. I hate changing the oil on that thing. I think I'll let someone else do it after I use up this last filter.
I finally got my transmission back from the guy who was rebuilding it. It took him 2 1/2 weeks, but I guess it was worth the wait. A complete rebuild (TH350C), including replacing a bad gear, with a rebuilt converter, for $315. It has a 1 year warranty. He has rebuilt all of a friend's transmissions for years, and is supposed to be really good. We'll see. Slonaker I forgot the best part...I'm driving around today with the transmission in the trunk of my car. I did not have a friend with a truck handy when it was time to pick it up, so it is in the trunk of my Toyota. I feel like a redneck... Last edited by Slonaker; 04-11-2005 at 09:48 AM. |

Not too much...changed my '86 K10's oil and discovered that a POS 305 can have decent oil pressure with 15W40. Saturday morning the temperature gauge spiked just past 210 before dropping back down so I decided to change the thermostat as well, and in doing so I found that the vacuum supply line from the Q-Jet to the thermo housing TVS was cracked...a little electrical tape solved that problem. That TVS is going away eventually anyhow...
Put probably 100 miles on the truck this weekend, which is by FAR the most I've ever driven it. Now I need to put the '77 parts truck up for sale... Brad O. |

Bagging a 95 xcab. Got the back completely done, all wiring done except for lead in from ignition and ran all lines but the front. Got the passenger side spring pocket cut out and the shock mount welded up. Gonna take tomorrow off and finish it up and drive it around for a bit and take it back to the shop to make sure nothing up front rubs.

Congrats, I ended up studying most of the weekend for a big test I took today. Moved my spark plug wires so they were not so close to exhaust manifolds. Ended up taking my little brothers mudding and cruising up in the woods on friday for a good 4 or 5 hours. Was about 60* degrees out. Very nice to get out of town for awhile. Had a little headlight wires meet a fan but got it squared away.

Friday night was supposed to work on a nova street stock, but my buddy was in a crappy mood so canceled. So I stayed home and sprayed down a couple of motors I have to take apart with penetration oil.
Saturday did a little branch cleanup from winter ice storm. Jerked around looking for (4) 7/16-14x3" grade 8 bolts. Wasted 3 hours trying to buy them locally. Disassembled the 460 motors down to the blocks. One of them was rusted and locked almost solid. Seemed like that one took forever. Was interupted once when one of my sons was using the burn barrel for paper & cardboard and torched part of my rear lawn. Luckily it didn't reach the woods. Meandered the rest of the day away. Sunday helped the wife a little bit in the attic. Well actually she was up there while I was down below. It was too hot up there and I didn't make the mess. However, I was extremely happy when she came down with the envelope containing the keys and title for the 51 Stude. Been looking for it for 2 1/2 years now. So I took her to go buy some Forsythia bushes and missed the martinsville race. Then discussed the lack of motivation with my buddy about the nova.

I bidded on a pair of 73-80 GM NOS fenders, that have been laying around some guy's yard, fading a bit and with one rust spot. I won the left fender for $125 but lost out the right one by $2.00! I guess I am lucky, since the left driver side is harder to find. I am after a new one right one with a small circular dent on eBay or a new one in a local GMC dealership.

Here is the short version of my bad weekend. I needed to make a 830 mile round trip to get my 65 bel air and other parts to sell at Memphis Super Chevy. The trip started out good, but noticed oil all down the right side of my truck. Turns out the front crankshaft seal is leaking, but just filled her with oil and headed south. I got there ok, loaded the car and bed with parts all day saturday. Left sunday morning, and she bucked and died on the hiway only 100 miles later. I later figured out, that I needed to baby it going up the long hills because of the weight I was towing. I made it home in 10 hours, using a lot of gas, and some oil. I've never been happier to see my house and wife! BTW it takes about 6 1/2 hours to make that trip in a car. David

I completely pulled off the front clip on my 1982 Burb
I discovered that the 1981-1987 inner fenders could be used on 1973-1980 fenders , with a little modification on the front part of that inner fender ( by grinding a little off ) I should take a better look at it , but I think the fixation holes are on the same position. If not , I will adapt it ... ( I'm that kind of cheapo guy , remember ? ) I also discovered that the body has some rust damage under the A/C & heating core : hit the torch , I guess... the Baron

Totally chewed up my hands pulling the EGR valve out of the wife's 99 Voyager. Tried my best at cleaning it up to get the "check engine" light to go out but I think I'm going to have to break down and cough up the cash for a new one. Lost a socket somewhere in the engine compartment. That's two tools in four years I've lost in this thing. I hate working on it. Degreased the engine in my truck on Saturday as best I could in preperation for the new water pump going in (hopefully) next weekend.

Replaced differential fluid+ gasket, replaced front 275/60/15's with 255/60/15's, moved battery from bed to engine bay, re-wired electric fuel pump and MSD system, replaced drivers side interior door handle, replaced both door locks and ignition lock, pulled bed back to access gas tank easier, pulled dash to fix gas gauge, and removed all the old sterio wires from the 78 in preperation for the new engine and its daily driving life.
