question about my 307
Hey guys, I'm only 18, and i know a 307 isnt the best engine in the world, but it was my grandpa's and it only has 73K on it, well i added the last 13K myself, anyways i know some performance parts of a 307 will trasnfer to a 350 in the future when my engine is shot, can anyone tell me what kind of intake manifold and carb will give my engine some more pep so 6 cylinders wont beat me , hehe,(yes it has happended numerous times). If you add a four barrel carb....don't go beyond a 600 CFM, because all your motor will breathe now is approx 510 cfm, Edelbrock has a variety of manifolds, check the speed catalogs/web sites.

sweet looking 72, hei would be a big help, and the 600 cfm 4bbl, I had a 305 with a stock small block quadrajet, ran nice, not fast, but nice.

Before you spend a nickel on mods, make sure you have good compression, no vacuum leaks, new plugs and plug wires, and properly operating mechanical spark advance. Otherwise, you're wasting your money. The first mod should be dual exhausts, which may be your biggest single improvement. 2" pipes will be fine for a 307, but your future 350 will like 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" pipes. While you're at it, make sure the heat riser valve on the passenger side exhaust manifold opens. If it doesn't open, replace it with a new one or a "blank". Then go with a small 4 bbl carb and LOW RISE manifold, such as an Edelbrock Performer 2101 or Weiand 8004. Don't even think about a hi-rise and big carb! Heck, even a Holley 500 CFM 2-bbl kicks butt on the 283 and 307. Other mods should include a distributor advance re-curve kit, MSD Blaster coil and new stock valve springs. If you have a sound engine to start with, you won't believe what a difference the above mods will make. I did something similar with my 307, before I dropped in a 350, and then a 383. Have fun!

Heres what you can do, Take a four bolt 350 block,standard bore preferably, put your 307 crank,If its large journal,into your block order kit for a 350 motor and you've got a 4 bolt 327 or 331 if bored .30. Good Luck and have fun. 350 rods also.

need torque in heavy truck like that, IMO keep 350 a 350 or 400 crank in it for the torque increase to get the truck off the line
