New guy
welp I'm a new guy, as if you didn't already know :p
anyways I was just wondering if a heavy half truck with an inline 6 was common? I have a '72 custom 20 that was my grandfathers in pretty good condition ( he bought it new and it has been in the family ever since). anyways, I am just trying to figure out if it is a common truck combo or something more twoards hard to find combo.

Yep, most C20 trucks had V8 engines. Your 292 has a great reputation of being a torque monster. Hot Rod magazine had a feature in it a while back (no clue what year or month) with a '37 Chevy coupe running a blown 292. It had around 500 HP i think, and was running in the 10 second range in the 1/4 mile. I think a blown 292 would be pretty cool in these trucks, and haul a$$ too! But, the 292 will cost alot more to build than a SBC. Good luck

I think the 292 is a great idea.You can only look at so many bellybuttons before they start to run together.I love the SBC but ya gotta admit they seem to be pretty common.

As for your question, there was no heavy 1/2 ton back then...that was later in the 70's. A C/20 is a 3/4 ton...it has 8 lug rums, right?

are some older pictures of my truck. I don't have any new because it is being rebuilt at my dad's house right now in odessa. I am going to try twin turbos on that 292 and see what I can get out of it. I know it won't be a full blown race truck but it will hold it's own on the street. I want to fix the interior and get that gas tank out and the one in the bed out and replace them with a clean looking alum. one where that old back one was. hopefully when I get done with it, it will be a good clean looking truck maybe even show worthy that can hold it's own vs some V8's :p. Thank you for all the warm welcomes. btw it has 8 lugs wheels and my dad said it is a heavy half truck or also called a campers special. I dunno much about it. I have been studying the engine mostly and trying to find sites with trucks like this and I ran into this one.

and im not sure, but that filler neck on the bed looks like the factory saddle set ups? i dunno about the tank being in the bed though

thank you longhornmail hehe I have been wondering wtf it was. I was thinking just a 3/4 ton but everyone else seems to think otherwise. I'm going to replace those rusted spots and repaint it the orginal color. right now I'm trying to find some '72 license plates for Texas. my dad says I should get them. I was just wondering are all 3/4 tons so high in the back?
gas tank was put in by my grandfather. the truck orginally had a camper which we took off 3 years ago and took all the carpet and tool boxs out.

You might have some booster springs or something like that being it had a camper in it, but for the best part, they all sat like that.

nice truck, the 3/4s sit so hig in the back because they were designed to haul and tow, even 1/2s are a good 2" or more higher in the back than front

I was looking around at some of you guys trucks and all I can say is wow. Do you guys buy parts from L&M trucks? I am looking into a steering wheel and just about all the weather stripping. Are they a good place to buy from or do you guys know of a better provider of older parts?
