? Production #'s on BB Subs in 72
Can anyone provide me with production numbers for Sub's in 72 that were equipped with the big block engine. Also in the 3/4 ton version if it makes a diffrence. I am thinking it may be low but dont know for sure. I know Chevy was trying to get rid of all the 396/402's as the motor was eventually discontinued that year. Thanks

72 Suburbans
The book I have says C/20 Suburban w/doors (2wd-2136) (4wd-503) C/20 Suburban w/gate (2wd-3141) (4wd-879) I don't know how many were BB but you can guess that a very low % were big block! B.B.
PS. I had a 72' 3/4 with a 402, couple years back with 4.56 gears it would pass everything but the gas station. It got 10 miles a gallon at 60 MPG, and 7 MPG at 70 miles an hour! It looked like you could actually see the gas guage move when you were driving 70 or above! I would fill up the tank in Durham,NC drive to Rock Hill,SC (about 160 miles) and have to fill the tank when I got there. I loved the old bur. But it was traded for 71' Blazer. I got about 15 MPG. those numbers seem kind of low. I am sure there were alot more suburbans than that in 72
|

I'm not sure if his info. is quoted from the Chevy "Red Book" or not but those are the same #s I have in my red book. Are you sure that you are looking at the 20s like shown in the example. There were more 10s than the 20s. They also have the different production #s for gate vs. rear doors in 69-72 but only in the 20 series.

72 production numbers
The numbers I posted are form Motorbooks International Chevrolet Pickup Red Book (Pickups, El Caminos, blazers, &More) 1946-1972 By Peter C Sessler First published in 1993. Those production numbers were for C/20 or 3/4 ton only!
These are for C/10 or 1/2 tons C/10 production are Suburbans w/doors (2wd-6,748) (4wd-991) C/10 Sububans w/gates (2wd-10,757) (4wd2145) B.B. Last edited by Big Block; 04-25-2005 at 07:33 PM. |
