Help: probably ??? beaten to death: Vent Window Rivets?
how do these things work.... i've never done this before?
everyone seems to think this is a PITA. but i need to replace the weatherstrip as it is all "dry-rotted" i searched but no "true explination" of which rivets actually have to be removed and which don't and if some of them can be replaced with regular pop rivets vs. orginals anyone know which can be replaced with regual pops? other than the "pivot rivot" - i know that one is the "crush style" or whatever you want to call it do you hammer on them till they "flare out" i thought i saw something written by GMCPaul to cut the tool and then weld it to a C-clamp and use that to "crush" the rivets? what size C-clamp? a small one i'm assuming (2-4") so that you can get it inbetween the window? Thanks in advance - sorry if it has been asked a 1k times..but in my search i didn't find "how to properly use the tool" and which rivots needed to be removed....i didn't know if you have to do them all or not

PICKMUP (Frank) has the knowledge and a kit to do this. I was discussing it with him the other day. Send him a PM...then post the procedure...since I might have to a couple myself...LOL!

It looks to me the two rivets on the backside of frame can be replaced with regular pop rivets. I think it is the pivot point rivet that is special. Those rivets are easily accessed with window open and rubber out of the track. John

you cannot use pop rivets anywhere on it they are too long and wouldnt let the seals seat correctly. they are a huge pain in the @ss to do. i drilled the old ones and bought the kit from gmcpauls and after doing both vent windows i would buy new ones next time. i used a vice and the tool to crush the rivets and it worked ok but still required two people and was just a dreadful job keeping everything aligned
