Did a stupid thing working on my truck last night
I was drilling holes in my kickpannels so I could run wires to my doors and for the courtesy light switches. Stupid me didn't think about using small dril bits and working my way up. I decided to use one of those bullet drill bits, cuz the hole had to be half an inch, and they cut pretty good anyway. Well, I drilled a small hole, thinking i could set the tip of the 1/2 in. bullet bit in that hole. Well, when I used the 1/2 bit, it walked out of that hole and across my fresh painted kick pannel. took about a half inch strip of paint off it. I went freakin bizerk. luckily the hole is under the dash enough that it can't easily be seen and I can touch it up and nobody would probably ever notice.
After I did that bone head thing, I went back to the small drill bits and slowly worked my way up to a half inch. Gotta learn the hard way.

If you're going to be drilling a lot of holes in sheet metal, look into "Unibits". They are step drills and drill a perfect hole in sheet metal. My experience with regular twist drills is that they drill a triangular shaped hole.
