power steering swap
If I were to get a power steering box for a '69-72, could I use the pump and hoses from a '73+ truck? The prices are different for '69-72 vs '73+. I have a long water pump (alternator on passenger side) on a smallblock.
Thanks.

I doubt you will have any issues with it since they are interchangeable. From what they told me at the shop was they match up for the most part from 67-87. Good luck! |

if you us the 73-87 box.you will have to swap the alterantor bracket and the water pump to a long one.the only bracket for a 73-87 truck for the alternator is on the passanger side.As long as the box has standard fittings and not metric one you could find a 68-72 pump and bracket to save swapping everthing else.the 73-87 box is a bolt on deal unless your truck is a 67 or yearly 68 with out the dimple in the frame.I put a 84 power box, pump, moved aleranator and long water pump in a 72 1-ton and it works great. Also used the 84 pitman arm .

I think GM switched to metric in 1981.

use a gearbox up to 79/80.after that,gm went to an o-ring type hose, not the flare fitting type.on my truck,i used a pump/bracket assembly off of a 76 monte carlo, long style water pump, mounts on the ear of the pump, and helps keep things simple by knowing just what to ask for when replacement parts are needed at the parts store.
