My burb body after paint strip & derusting!!!
I going to try and finish the restoration of my 1971 Chevy Suburban after getting a look at the body after it came out of the final dip tank in its 100%
paint and rust removal process. I now have new vigor and inspiration to finsh the job, now if I can just find new cash to fund the project. I'm trying to get some pics up on the bord, but I've never done it before. Are the pics supposed to come up as soon as you post the thread? Last edited by burb71; 05-08-2005 at 08:09 PM. Lots of paint in your future. Was it chemical dipped? However it was stripped I bet that was a big job.

Burb body
I wish that I could have posted pics of it when it first came out of the dip tank, It had a very brite silver shine, it looked like it was coming down the assembly line again.
They then had to spray a water based solution all over it to keep it from flash rusting before I can get primer on it. I sent it in to this restortion shop that Ed Cooper from Mother Truckers uses to do this kind of rust and paint removal. I cant remember all of what the processes are that they put it thru, but I think that it was 3 different dip tanks and at least one tank has an electric charge with a chemical that seperates anything and everything from metal!!! Paint, bondo, fiberglass, rust or whatever, all that is left is clean metal. Ed Cooper knows more about it, he uses them alot. Man, that thing is stripped clean.Good thing about that nothing can hide now.Looks like a lot of work ahead of you however once finished it should be worth all the hard work.

Its not cheep, 1- Suburban body + 3- Doors, 2- Fenders 1- Tail Gate, 1- Lift Gate and the Hood = $1,800

From what I can see, there is no rust. That is great. I agree, that price is well worth it. Looks good.

Restoration Depot in Wachula Fl phone# 863 773 2545. The body came back with more pin hole rust thru than we expected but is being repaired with TRI PLUS patch panels and sheetmetal patches made from 18 gauge metal beat into shape, dents from previous owners pulled with a stud gun and hammer/dolly worked to death. Steve bit the bullet and is using all PPG products from wash to paint. If anybody has a Burb they are not rebuilding i need a driver side lower section in front of the rear wheel about 11 inches tall by 2-4 inches wide, it must be rust and dent free at the lip where it turns inward. email me at motrucker@prodigy.net if you need a picture of the section needed. His is to crushed to repair.

I thought you could buy that section as a repair pannel now. Wes Has a few new patch pannels on his site that are for the burbs only. Im going to have my 68 bird diped car needs a lot of work only restoring it becouse it was the car my mom drove to school. I will be welding in full rear quarters on both sides the guy that bought it from her used it as a drag car and filled the fender well lip with bondo to keep from cutting the tires and filled in the luvers to make it look like a camaro and its rusted out bad so I will be doing a lot of patch work.

To my knoledge there are only the behind the rear wheel correct for burb lower patch panels available, We used those (hats off to TRI PLUS for the great tooling) and the tail light section on it with minor modifications around the barn door hinge cutout and inner lip step where it fits the jamb (it is 1/8 inch to wide in the step above the cutout and needs a pie cut to fit correctly) .
earl87gta the body must be stripped completely to be dipped,wiring,sound deadener,rubber etc. Call me when you need your bird full quarter panels and i'll get you a good price.

PM bigorange I bought a blazer from him and when I went down to get it he had what was left of a Burb that he was using for parts I cant rember what kind of shape it was in but mabe it will have what you need. When It comes time for the quarters Ill give you a call. Im building a rotisary for the bird body to go On the good thing is it is complete all the interior trim every thing is all thier but it needs rechromed so Ive been taking every thing off slowly as I have time packing it and labeling it so I can have it all rechromed. I may end up paying some one to weld in the quarters I dont mind doing it on my blazer but Im still a little woried about doing to the bird I want to be able to paint it back the origanel Valardo Green and it will make any mistake I make show up.

i may have to take you up on that. Do you know if the chrome shop does the work them selves or do they send it out and have it done. I was going to have some stuff done to my Buell and evrry one i could find sent it off to have ut done.
