If you guys don't have a fire extinguisher GO AND BUY ONE! I am sooo glad i had mine yesterday. If iwould have not had it i would have had to watch my truck go up in flames. Me and my dad were crusing around, and i was turing a corner and bam...nothing no click no crank no response at all from my truck, it just died. Then all the sudden i smell smoke and i jump out of my truck and see a glow from under the dash!!! so i get my extinguisher from my console and i put out the ball of flame. I am guessing it was my neutral saftey switch wire (that would explain the no start and that wire is the most chared) i haven't really got the guts to really look under there good yet. i might wait a while so that i don't have a breakdown and do something stupid like sell my truck or something. (the though crossed my mind) anyways i am glad i had my extinguisher and if you don't have one go and get one. TODAY. anything can happen, and like i said i would have not liked watching my truck go up in flames and not been able to do a dang thing about it.

I have an empty fire extinguisher holder bolted to the passenger kickpanel that I look at everyday and say "I really need to get a new fire extinguisher to put in that." I guess it's time.

Very good idea.I have one in every vehicle I own.I also have one on every floor of my house and 2 in the garage.I almost lost my house 2 months ago.We had a power surge that set the breaker panel on fire.If I didn't have a extinguisher in the basement,I am sure the house would be gone.It takes a minimum of 20 min for the fire co to get here.The rafters above the box are chared.

Good suggestion. I keep one in my barn/shop and numerous in my house but I should get one in each vehicle to be safe. They really aren't very expensive - especially when needed!

my buddy had to watch his trans am burn up after a fuel line busted. he opened the hood (i know ) and it burnt his arms pretty badly, and also scorched some siding on his house.
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POST, i'm gonna go after work friday and pick a couple of them up before the car show in pigeon forge. i,d hate to watch my truck burn up on the side of the road. it's better safe than sorry.

It was one of the first "modifications" i did to my '72.

You better open that hood and disconnect the battery or you may have a ball of flames pop up while you are sleeping.

So any idea what would have caused the fire? It started under the dash, from the fusebox area then? That's pretty scary. I'm getting my '70 running and now I'll be even more nervous to get things hooked up perfectly. What would cause a short like this able to start a fire?

I'd love to hear feedback on weak links and all areas of the truck I need to pay close attention to for fire hazards...

I had to put out an engine fire in my boat one time-without an extinguisher I would have had to abandon ship and swim home.

Another time-I always end up with a couple extra FE's left over from jobs I do and if I don't need them I give them to my friends. I had one for my one friend sitting at the house for a couple months and he finally came and got it. Two days later he had a grease fire in his kitchen. He was sure glad he came and got it when he did.

I nearly lost my 67 a couple weeks ago to a fuel fire. 9 month old fuel line dry rotted and cracked and sprayed gas on the dizzy and air cleaner. It was sitting idling and it sputtered and died and whoof! Hood was up luckly and I grabbed a moving blanket and smothered it. I couldn't find my extinguisher in the garage for nothin when I needed it. I need to get one to keep in the truck cause I may not be so lucky next time.

that is why in public buildings it is well marked.I don't panic.But when my house was close to going up,it gets real close.Even though my extinguisher is mounted to the support post,i had to think about were it was.

I had the hood liner catch on fire once on a car I owned. I was glad to have an extinguisher on board. Over the years it had been soaked in oil and had enough on it it burned. Made a big mess but saved the car.

Diddo here, paint on my hood is bubbled after the carb backfired and caught the air cleaner on fire. NO extinguisher, No more truck!

I cleaned the fuel filter on my '67 two weeks ago and after cranking the engine the first time I noticed flames in the engine compartment (didn't get it back on securely). Lucky I still had the hood up or I might not have caught it in time. I had a fire extinguisher mounted in the car port, but FORGOT about it in my heightened state of panic. Grabbed a water hose and doused it good. Truck wouldn't start for a week, but is running fine now -- got something wet that I shouldn't have. I'm off to the store to get some in-truck extinguishers...
