Brake booster failure

Recently, my brake have acted funny. Sometimes the brakes feel like they loose the power and become manual brakes. Sometimes it is hard to push the first half, then it acts as the booster kicked in and it is easy to press the brake the last half. Is this a power booster failure or did the one-way vaccum valve fail?

Have you made a camshaft change to a more aggressive profile lately? Larger cams create less vacumme, and after you have the brake depressed for a short ammount of time the engine vacumme may just be building up. With the engine off for a few minutes, depress the brake and see if you still have any assist. If not you must either have a vacumme leak through the check valve or the grommet arround it, or a leak in the diaphram itself.

No I haven't changed anything. I have tested the booster as it says, but it checks out. Maybe I have a vacuum leak elsewhere?
