12 bolt to 14 bolt FF questions.
I have a '72 C10 with the 5 lug coil spring rear. If I swap in a 14 bolt FF axle (3.5" axle tube diameter) can I still use my control arms? Are the u-bolts holes through the arms spaced far enough apart for a wider u-bolt? I know of needing a panhard mount and spring pads , but I'm not sure if my control arms will work.
Thanks. |

i dont know the answer for you but i am just wondering why you would want to put a 14 bolt in over a 12 bolt? as you said it has control arms so it isnt a 4x4.... i dont mean to be rude just trying to understand the advantage of haveing the 14bolt ff over the 12 bolt? no "C" clips to worry about?
TTT for you also Rat

Well, it's a 2 wheel drive now, but I plan to convert it to a 4x4 and I have a matched set of 8 lug axles for it (10 bolt front and a 14 bolt rear). The plan for the rear is to swap in the 14 bolt and mount it under the control arms instead of on top of them and use a 2" block, this will be around 8" to 9" of lift using the factory coil springs. For the front fab up some radius arms to mount the 10 bolt. And I hope to be able to use airbags at all four corners, and if not then I'll use coil springs, and throw on some 35's and call it a day. I think it would be cool to have a 4x4 sitting on air or coils at all four corners.
So basically I want the 14 bolt because it's an 8 lug to match the front and I already have new 8 lug wheels and tires. If I were to keep it a 2 wheel drive the 12 bolt would be fine. ttt again. |
