gas gauge
what is typical reason for gas gauge to not work? shows way past full all the time.

the brown wire being grounded out.
The wire that goes from the tank to the fuse panel is probably shorted to ground. Most likely, it'll be under the chrome strip under the drivers side door at the carpet edge. |

I just went to check on my truck. I disconnected the brown wire that is connected on the tank, and the needle on the gauge went way past full. I shorted the wire to ground and it went to empty. So if your needle is going past full, you a break in the wire.

I have Dual tanks and it dont matter which tank im using, my needle never moves from 1/4 tank. can this also be the brown wire.

Don't mess with a good thing. If your gas gauge reads full all the time, go with it.

I had a bad connection or something like that at the fuse block on my 67. I never did figure out exactly what I did to get it to work but some wiggling around the fuse panel resulting in a working gas gauge for me.

with the brown wire plugged in fuse box,i can take the other end and hold to a ground, the gauge goes to empty. that tells me there is no break in wire.if the wire is not touching anything it shows past full. if it is conected to sendig unit there is no change, it shows past full. does this mean the sending unit is not giving signal? also i know i have about 7 gallons,how many does it hold?

some tanks hold 17, most are more like 22 gallons. (pick ups...no idea on the blazer/burb)
Your testing is correct, as is your conclusion. The guage is working fine, the wire is good, and the sending unit it not giving a reading. You may pull it out and see a broken wire, but plan on replacing it though. |
