S-10 5 Speed
Will an s-10 5 speed fit a 66 283 and if it will fit how much power and torqe will it be able to handle?

280-ish ft pounds of torque.
If your 283 is stock, it should be OK if you don't plan on beating on it too hard. |

G-Force makes a rebuild kit for the T-5 to upgrade to 500hp.

Mines got more like 350 torqe so it wont work. I can get my hands on a camaro t-5 will that one hold up?

nope, the best stock T5 only holds up to 305 ft pounds.
There is a reason GM only hooked them up to crappy 305 motors and smaller. They can however, be beefed up as Harry pointed out. |

Id like to put a T-5 in my truck (fullsize 66) and will eventually put in a LT1 I have. Is the camaro/firebird T-5 that much better that I should look for one over a readilly available s10 unit? Is there any other trans I should consider in the low to very low price range?
