Radiator question
Okay today the water in the radiator was low and the engine was running hot so I decided that the motor is ready for anti-freeze so i emptied the radiator and put anti-freeze in and started it, well it is doing the same thing getting a little hot ten when you drive it gets hotter.... any ideas??? P.S. I just put a new temperature control valve on it.

What is a temp control valve? Are you talkin A/C stuff?
Did you purge the system? I hear the air pocket deal tossed around here 10 times a week, but this is a case where it actually sounds like that to me. You didn't put straight antifreeze in there did you? That'll heat up your motor alone. Thermostat? Is it new..old....rusty and nasty? If it was low...where did it go? |

Of course i did not put straight antifreeze in it, I mean the heater control valve or what the little silver thing that has a hose from the water pump and another one to the water header on the manifold, and another little one, on the passenger side in the engine bay, I think maybe I'll try water tommorow instead of the mix, and I'll give you an update, any other things you think of are welcomed, I haven't worked on one of these trucks like this in a long time and probably forgot alot. P.S new thermostat.

I think you are talking about the valve between the water pump and heater core. All it does is shut off the coolant into the heater core, for summer driving!!
I agree with Longhorn Man, you more than likely have air in the cooling system, and need to purge it out. Where did all that coolant go? Does the system have any leaks (hoses, heater core, freeze plugs, etc.)?? Where are you located? I know here in Texas is been hot and only getting hotter, just this past week the upper 90's. I just swapped out my 190 thermostat for a 160 to help out.

Hmmm... Do you have a fan shroud? What kind of fan? Sealed system with overflow tank?

Then you have a clutch fan. Maybe it went south. How does it feel when you rotate it by hand?

You know the temperature does not seem to affect the motor at all, cause yesterday I was drivin' around and the temp gauge was a little passed to half-way mark, so I was going to make a left turn....... I stomped the throttle and she took off tires screamin' (which I did not think it had enough gogo to do) and then the ass end started comin' round and the rear tire (no posi) started really skidding and the motor sped up A LOT, sounded great!!!... after that the temp gauge was gettin' close to the red.

If you are not leaking antifreeze anywhere you probably need to purge the system of air.

I found the problem, a bad temp. sending unit, I swaped it out and put the original one back in, then everything was normal.
