progress pics of the motorhome - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well I made the long weekend fly by, rebuilt all the walls of the motorhome.
The pics show how much ripping I did, did alot of welding( many burns to show it).
All in all it went prtty good, did way more than I thought I was going to, but Iin the long run it will be well worth it.
A list of things I did.
-Rebuilt all the walls, new windows ,door, access panels and new Filon on the outside(still to come)
-Rebuilt the door step, and built new storage compartments for the propane bottle and fresh water tank, built new outside storage compartment.
-removed all flooring and old insulation, replaced with 1 1/2" styrofoam SM and new plywood.
-Built new side skirting, lowered about 4", to accomidate for the new door.

All that took my dad and I about 34 hrs on the weekend, now Ill have to take a couple days off to rest up.

Looks like a very intimidating job. When you get bored you we can swap out campers and you can do mine.

Great job and thanks for posting those. I am glad I did not buy it now after seeing all the great work you are doing on it. I knew that I did not have time for that project. I can stop grieving now...LOL!

this is amazing!!!!!!! I for one can highly appreciate your efforts. I see old crappy rotted out motorhomes all summer long & you rank up there with GeeEmm.

Yah I think I went a little overboard on some things, but when you sat back and looked at the way it was built, I am amazed that the original metal even stayed on. I know they want to build them light, but come on. I removed the 1 1/4" by 1 1/4 studs and replaced them with 1 1/4 by 2 1/2" studs, and most of the studs are full length, not joined in 2 or 3 peices. There was probably more weight in staples than there was in wood.

Hopefully I stay motivated, Im sure my wife and my brother in law(lowburb) will keep me going. I grew up camping almost ever weekend, so I now what its like to be in the great outdoors, but now I have one of the coolest motorhomes to go in. Hell I will even enter it in a couple car shows, albeit it will be towing either my Jimmy or my Beetle, now thats going to be neat, Ill be the only one with a personal portapotty, and a fridge for my beer.

going to start laying out the new electrical stuff tomorrow night, finish up my outside storage box, then start to insulate and cover up the mess with some lovely white paneling.

Tom, Im using a product called Filon, its basically the same stuff as the new trailers have, but its not laminated to plywood. Nice and white, a good base for a funky paint or graphic job.

Hmm looks very familiar. We have our 73 Prowler all torn apart to and it's one hell of a mess. I would love to tear it down to the frame and build a completely different camper. But in all reality, our camper isn't worth it.

You got it. Well It would take some major work. I was siiting on the deck talking to my dad and I said It would be a real cool machine if it had a slide. In their 5th wheel they have 3, Im wondering if I could steal one, they dont need all that room anyways.
