Wait! Is this the correct column?!?
Is this the correct column for my '69 (see below)? I'm wondering if the '69 had the metal shift indicator housing like the one I had, or is it from another truck? Maybe the housing is wrong but the column is right? When did metal housings get used?

OUCH! It sure looks like it. You might want to do the van-tilt column exchange.

Why "OUCH"? The huge crack in the steering wheel? Nothing I can do about that except get a new steering wheel. There's a larger one on the other side!
Seriously, this is an old picture. The column is in much better shape now that I've taken it apart about 1000 times and cleaned it. I'm just concerned that I won't be able to find another one of these housings for my other column... ------------------ '69 3/4 ton C20 2wd w/ 350ci/400THM and a wood bed! Then were did it come from? This is only badged as a C20, and there's no custom options or anything that would make me think otherwise.
Strange. Here's another pic: ------------------ '69 3/4 ton C20 2wd w/ 350ci/400THM and a wood bed! '69 3/4 ton Custom 20 2wd w/ ORIGINAL 350ci/4sp Manual and a wood bed (parts beast). Seattle, WA. *See pics of my trucks and project at www.webshots.com!

I was waiting till my digi cam was up to ask this question...
My '70 CST Longhorn had the larger plastic one, in body color. My '69 GMC Custom has the chrome one, and the '70 C/30 Longhorn also has the smaller chrome one. What gives?(none of them were tilt.) ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. I don't know...maybe the Custom series had stuff like this, but it's wierd that the CST Longhorn wouldn't! I guess we're assuming the nicer the truck the better the housing, because obviously the chrome housing kicks a$$.
Is the column in your GMC and C30 the originals? See, I thought mine was simply because it didn't looke like it's ever been messed with + it's the right color. I don't know...my head hurts! lol We gotta get more examples...anyone? ------------------ '69 3/4 ton C20 2wd w/ 350ci/400THM and a wood bed! I have a metal housing as well, it came from a 71 or 72 GMC custom, so maybe it is a custom option.

I've seen both kinds on various trucks, the chrome ones are smaller, not sure why...may have been specific to a certain year or trim option, but it's hard to be sure after 30 years since parts get swapped and switched. I'm pretty sure I've even seen the larger version in chrome too....

I have found plenty of the small chrome ones, but never seen any more big ones.
The column in the GMC is not original. However, I have no reason to believe the other 2 were chainged, they were both 2 owner trucks, that were unmolested. (sure, the one ton is beat up, but lots of good original stuff) ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Wow, I guess I did do too many drugs back in the day.
I was looking at some old pics, and the pic of the int on the day I brought the blue Longhorn home, shows a small metal indicater. Now I just have to try to remember where the h*ll this big blue one came from in the first place. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350.
