I do not know the difference between HO 52 and 72. Can you help me here? What do I have and how do I know or does it matter?

Thanks and pardon my ignorance.

size of the brakes and the H072 has a pinion load bolt. gears/carriers/axles all the same.

Drink2mny - please put me in line for the locker, do you know what the gear ratio is?

Hey Jim, on the question of the HO52 and HO72. I had a 70' 3/4 ton 4x4 with rear brake drum that was 11"x2" and my 72' 3/4 ton 4x4 has rear brake drum 11"x3". I would assume that the HO72 rear is the one with the larger brakes?

Thanks, Scott

The brakes got changed around some on the same axle.At least on the HO52.The `71 K/20 I had used shoes/drums that were `71 only, taller and skinnier(12x2?).Sounds like it`ll work on an HO52 if the carrier, axles, and gears are the same. Not sure, though.C`mon back Jim,enlighten us.

I appologize for the delay here guys but I am just not knowlegable enough to know if this is the right one for me.
This is one of those cases where I will not jump on an item for sale without a little more info and unfortunately, I do not know and the seller does not know either. Nobodys fault, just not informed as I would like. I am still learning.
Does this include gears and what ratio?
And I know it is now Saturday but are you able to get a pic for us. I know you are to be gone.
Can anyone else help here?
Perhaps a full description of each axle, side by side comparison would be very helpful. Maybe something for the FAQ?

I got the info out of my 1970 chassis manual. The carriers are the same. it's kinda like a 14 bolt in a 3/4 ton and 1 ton. Same axle different brakes.

Yeah,I posted this question on the drivetrain board and got a similar reply.According to the 1967 manual the differences are gear ratios and brakes.

Drink2mny, I have tried to email but the link must be mis-spelled. Looks like the (n) should be an (m) for custom. I will try again by changing the spelling. Sent the email yesterday and just got the failure notice today.

Well I just, just got back from a kick ass car show,(i'll post on other board)..

I replyed in a hurry the other day, I was on my way out the door..reason for the mispelled email addy..
I should have said check sig to email...

I was told Randy has emailed you back.
It is an ho52 rear, as for gears and ratio.. The locker goes into the carrier, so it will work with what ever ratio you have.. It takes the place of the spider gears, not the whole carrier..

I'll try to get to the shop monday to get a pic..

I did some more research and it looks like it should do the trick.
Go ahead and send pics please but at this point, I will take it.
Stupid me, khanson@ccp.com or khanson@vp.com
Both will ensure that I get it.
