First Mod..Brakes
Ive decieded that the first mod I want to do on my 70 C10 is disk/drum and switch to 5 lug. What is the easiest year to rob from for this conversion? Do any of you have a parts list? Is there any direct swap axles? I plan on going with 3 inch spindles in front and coils in the back. I figure this would be the best starting point for where I want to end up. Thanks for any help.

hit the bone yards & pick up a complete front suspension from any 73-87. 6 bolts & 2 hoses and its outta there. make that 8 bolts, forgot about the shock uppers. mine is from a donor 80 C10. made a trailer out of the back half. ($30 trucks are cool)

Or.... You can keep the six lug axles and use 71-up spindles lowered if you like, and components coupled with 1990 3/4 light duty 2wd truck rotors ($53 each) and maintain 6 lug wheels and look original for your 1970, but you will need to buy different hoses- GMC pauls $115- braided, and get a prop valve and you have disk brakes and 6 lugs no need for new wheels or to buy new axles.

A 1970 rear end is a one year only housing.. it is the same width as the 71 and up just 6 lug (67-69 6 lug rear ends are narrower) .... you can use any 71 - 80 12 bolt 2wd 5 lug axles and drums.. just make sure if you find a 73 up rear end and it has the 3 inch brakes, get the backing plates and hardware too.. The easiest front conversion is from a 71 - 72, at least for the brake booster and steel lines.. most everything is a direct bolt in..

hey TN70, if you're close to nashville/clarksville, i've got an entire disk to disk front still on the xmember you can pick up for $50. voila, your front will be done. sorry, i already sold the rearend.

Thanks. I may take you up on that front end. It may be a few weeks before I have the money. Im going to check around local also. I think a buddy of mine may have a whole parts truck. Im in Chattanooga so its a little bit of a ride to Nashville. Ive only been to Nashville one time but had a blast while I was there.

What if I decieded to bag it, would I still need drop spindles at all? I was thinking if I run it low alot with stock ones it would mess up some front end geometry or something
