i got a stock 78 4x4 3/4 suburban. I was wondering what size of tire i could fit, without any rubbing and any problems? 31"/32"33"???

hmmmm i would think that you should be able to get standard to wide 31s such as 31x10.50 works easily, had them on my 76 c1500, or slimmer 32s on there.

i have 33x12.50 on my half ton 4x4 burb.

All depends on wheel width. 33s will normally fit without rubbing on an 8" rim but will rub on a 10" wide rim. Same story on 32s in my experience. 31s will not rub on either size rim.

Also depends on how much your leafs have settled.Also depends on use and how much travel you will need.

its in need of new tires, so i'm thinking a little more aggressive and bigger. May purchase a lift kit, for clearance and for bigger tires. With a lift kit, can you still carry the same payload?

depends on the kit, some reduce it... the manufacturer of the kit should have some more info on that. sometimes you can get a 2-3" body lift for the bigger tires and keep the towing hitch/assembly on the frame without too many problems. The only time it may affect it is if you load up the inside back of the burb...

I run 255/85R16 (approx. 33x10") on the back of my 2wd Burb. No rubbing.

I also ran the same size on my '91 crew without any lift or rubbing.
