New upholstery or new seat?

When I bought my 81 1/2 ton 14yrs ago it had the strandard bench seat in it came with the seemingly standard cracked and ripped drivers-side seat. Since seat covers were readily available for $20 and less I'd just buy a new one about every two years and try to patch the seat underneath with duct tape the best I could to prolong the life of the new cover.

Now I can't find a cover for less than about $50 and I'm starting to wonder if the upholstery kits I see for $100-$200 are worth investing in instead of tossing the new cover in a couple of years. Or should I just look for a new seat all together? I want to keep the bench so I can still fit my two kids in the car so buckets are out. I'm sure my fat butt hasn't helped the seat out that much , but the foam is still there and the vinyl is still there, just cracked and split.
