I just finished removing the standard transmission crossmember and need to know if the auto crossmember goes back into the same mounting holes on the frame...........picture would be extra nice......thanks.......

I am ACTUALLY going the other way, TH400 out, SM465 in. The 4-speed XM is up on the curved part of the frame, where as the auto XM is back further on the flat part of the frame. I am out working on mine right now if you need any measurements. Let me know, Mike

I did see where there are another set of bolt holes just back of the ones that the manual XM was. Is this where to bolt up the auto XM, or do you have to drill new holes?

There should be 2 sets of holes further back, one set is for the TH350 and one set is for the TH400

I always have the best luck bolting the crossmember to the chassis with the tranny installed and on a jack, that way I know that I won't have to move it.

if your using V-8 motor mounts the member goes farther back than the standard tranny holes, but not the holes farthest back ( if I remember correctly) . If you have small fingers and some knuckle skin to spare it's possible (barely) to set the member in the frame rails put the motor & tranny in place lines up the holes and bolt the member in when you get the holes lined up. BUT doing it that way you need fairly short bolts for the top portion. Or you can guess and bolt everything REAL tight only to find your a couple inches out & have to move it all later. That's what I did, but I don't recomend it.

If your motor & tranny are connected, measure from where the tranny bolts to the member ( 2 holes on bottom of tailshaft) to the place where the motor mount bolts are. Transfer that distance to the corrosponding places on the frame. Start with the motor mounts then slide ( or hammer it might be tight) the tranny x-member back till it's the right distance. The holes should line up.
