Shaved Fuel Door
Has anyone ever shaved the fuel door on our trucks? I am looking for ideas on where to put the filler neck.

Are you still using the stock tank, or running an aftermarket tank under the bed?
Here is what I did on my truck... http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/chas...ellinstall.htm

Jeff's setup is classic and looks good. The execution can be done in different ways (flush, recessed, hidden, motocycle gas cap, etc). If you're keeping your saddle tank(s) you could do something similar above the tank. It may be a bit more difficult to fill. You could also mount the fuel door on the inside wall of the bed, opposite of the existing location. If you're going with a rear tank, how 'bout trying to route the filler neck to behind a 'hinged' taillight housing like the '55 chevys.

I am using the stock tank only b/c I have bought a new one. I thought about drilling a hole in the bed and cover it with the motorcyle gas cap. The inside of the bed idea is cool.
bigblock73-Where did you purchase the JAZ products?

How 'bout flushing-mounting a motorcycle gas cap or a cap like Jeff's on the inside of the bed panel.
Whatever you decide, post a couple of pics when your done.

That inside bedside fuel door is cool, but I have a question. How the heck does the filler tube fit in there, let alone have room for a cap to fit inside when the door is closed?
I would really like to see finished pics of it, because if it all works, that is one neat idea.

do you have to redo the fill tube with 1-1/2 fuel fill or what? i don't see how a stock set up fits in there.

jeff, here's a link with lots of pics of that truck.
http://www.killerridez.com/1984_chevy.htm he has a gas door on the inside of the bed, and outside. i guess the pic that has the outside door, is a before or work in progress pic. |
