Going from LWB to SWB
Well my truck was rear ended about a year ago and the wreck twisted the frame a little. I went out and bought a SWB frame but I have a couple questions. My truck was a 79 C-10 but it had the Big 10 option. The rear axle was bent in the accident so I am trying to find a rear end to replace mine at the local yards and all they have are the regular C-10 versions. Can I use my brakes and backing plates on a reagular half ton rear end? Also when I get a short drive shaft will the u-joints be different sizes because of the heavy-half ton option? Someone please shed some light on this so I can get started on my truck.

The only thing a Big 10 has over a regular 1/2Ton is the springs and the HD brakes. The axle is exactly the same.

so I can reuse the brakes when I get a different rear-end then. Thats nice to know since I just rebuilt them about 1.5 years ago.

Well the truck has sat for a little over a year now so the brakes only have a couple months of wear on them.

Sounds like who ever ran into the rear of your truck tried to make that long bed into a "short bed". Just fooling with you.
