Is it worth it?

Looking to add to the fleet.

It's a '68 3/4 four wheel drive six cyl. My brother found it and sent me the pic, so all my info is second hand. He said the rust is very minor, the only big dent is the one you can see on the fender, it has factory AC (owner claims it works - didn't have a belt on it), PS, PB. He said the interior is in "really good" shape, even though he didn't get a look under the seat cover.

He's asking $2700.

I'm itching to buy it. I have to convince the wife first.

W/out alot of pic's it is hard to say, $2500 would be my max, jmho, and
that would be contingent on better pic's, a pic of the glovebox door w/
options listed on it, but as it sits now, not a dime over 2k, again, jmho

It reall depends on seeing and driving it. Get a feel for how much they want to get rid of it. Front metal looks good so it has not been a banger. Wheels and tires $200. Tool box $75-$125. The complete A/C unit (working) more than $1000. Mirrors $35-$50. Reasonable running engine at least $200. And the list goes on. No insults but offer them much less (<$2000) and see there response. There will always be another, not that one , but another.

I don't think its worth 2700. I think $1700 is prolly closer.

Same old debate, it is worth what the buyer is willing to pay. It is up to the buyer to check out and determine the value. NO ONE here can make a estimate of value without first looking at and test driving. They almost always look better in the PICS.
That would be my opinion, LOL, I should make a post to find out the value of that! Just kidding, I know that and 25 cents might buy a phone call.

Always-always-always look better in pics!

Go look, it's the only way.

And yes, adding to the fleet is a good thing.

As described: one dent, not rusted,a/c,K/20 CST,yes it`s worth $3,000-down just as a core for a nice start.A 37 year old truck is not a used car any more,it`s a survivor. You may be able to jump in and go,but that`s a plus. That`s a fairly rare find there. With a quick paint job and pretty wheels it could go for double.I`d rather buy them like this, original.Of course offer less.I`d say he`s got it at $2,700 to be knocked down to $2,500.So,offer $2,200.Alot depends on how long he`s been trying to sell and amount of response so far.

I wouldn't pay over $2,000. True, it's a 4wd, but ... 6cyl and 3spd are crappy and if it doesn't have working A/C, power steering or other things, I can't imagine it's worth that much.

If it's a born-and-raised Arizona truck, chances are he's right - there's no rust.

The power train is irrelevant unless it's something special....
4x4 and heavily optioned is a big plus, as is 4x4

From the picture.. it's hard to tell but the rockers and corners look suspicious to me. The "no rust" claim might be dubious. Mine supposedly didn't have rust either. I don't think the seller was dishonest; he just didn't realize that expanding insulation foam is not an aceptable body filler.

I wouldn't freak out over that .. cause a 68 4x4 isn't real common, but I would check it out.

I'd question why working A/C didnt' have a belt on it. In fact, I'd be willing to spring for a belt, to make the owner prove that it worked. It would be worth $15 to know that you didn't have to spend $500 to get it working. Other that that, I also agree with Special K.

Worth a closer look & test drive. Rockers/kickers & core support are all rust hiding spots as we all know. Has it been in Arizona all it's life? What is the little knobby things on the bed sides? Looks like he bolted on tie downs for a bed tarp? Play up the bad things to the seller, the good things to your wife. It's a survivor for sure. Personally, I'd spend no more than 2k on it.

I'm going to go look at it tonight or tomorrow night. My brother has owned two of these (one being my '69 K10 before I got it from him, and a '70 c10), and he knows a little, but he doesn't know all the things to look for.

The pink tones are cute, but thankfully, it's just the camera phone that put the pink on there!

Oh, buying a belt isn't a bad idea. I generally look at a removed A/C belt as a sure sign that the A/C doesn't work. Who would disable the A/C if it worked?

Too bad it's a Sixer. I'd offer him $1500. But I'm an AHole. Tell him to proove that it's worth $2700. The look on his face will be worth at least that.

At this point it doesn't matter. I went to buy it last night... only to find that he sold it about 15 minutes before.

ckhd, I have been doing the body work on my truck rercently and I could see lots of problems with that one...doors and cab corners out of plane and several shadows on the body indicate large shallow dents that are a pain to remove. It would have been a $1500 unit in my estimation but there are lots of running trucks in this part of the country so I am a bit jaded and selective. Just my 0.02!
