Has anbody made a speaker box to replace your gastank?

I've got my tank out of the cab, now comes time to start building a speaker box. It will probably be 2 boxes. Each with multiple cavities. Total i'll have 2 12" subs, and a 5.5" or 6.5" mid and a tweeter. Has anything simular to this been done by anybody? Oh yeah, it has to house 2 amps too.

I haven't made any for the 67-72's but I've built a ton for the 73-98 years. Most all the ones I've done were the solid one-piece style with some cool recessed areas for amps and such. I personally don't like the mids and tweets to be behind the seat. It seems to sound 100% better with the mids and tweets up front for staging purposes and just have some subs in the rear, since bass is not a directional sound. Good luck!

this is a pic of the center console my granfather built for my truck it has 2 jensen 6's in it and an FM modulated 10 disc changer, it mounts to the flush back wall i built which houses 2 Rockford Fosgate 12's the amp and a linear will be under the seats while a custom autosound stereo will fill in the holes in the dash and a small cobra CB will go in the console too.

I have two boxes behind my seat with 2 12's in them.. I also built some corner panels to fit on the back sides of the cab with a tweeter and a 5 1/4 inch midrange..

It really wasnt that hard....

1) You're going to run out of air space reeeaaallly fast, especially every time you sink an amp in it.

b) Put the mids and highs somewhere else. All they do behind the seat is squawk at you. Most of the audible frequency range is highly directional.

III) I built a "shoehorn-in" box years ago. Basically (I'm leaving out the fact that it's a LOT of work), tape some newspaper (several layers) onto all the metal surfaces back there, cover that with trash bags, then get you several cans of spray foam. Let the stuff fly until you have a big giant chunk of foam that takes up the whole area (you can control the frontward movement with a piece of plywood laying at the angle where the seat will rest). When it's done expanding, cut it down the middle top to bottom and pull both pieces out. Lay fiberglass cloth across the backs tops and bottoms of the mold you created. Then work in a wood front panel with all your amp sinks in it. Like I said... lots of work, but you'll gain as much as 1 ft3 extra air space... a necessity with bigger woofers.

Phew...

If you replace your gas tank with speakers, you won't be able to get very far. I think the fuel capacity of the average speaker is less than a gallon...

Well the panels I built to go in the cab corners do a great job of adding fill to the sound. Most of my sound come from the dash speakers...

I just have to custom built boxes behind my seat.. I dont have any squeaks or rattles... my amps are under my seat....

I could send you some pictures of mine setup if you would like?
