Great job on the board. This is the best one I have been a member of by far. Good information and even better people. I do have a suggestion for the parts board. Would it be possible to break the parts section in to more categories, for example: engine, tranny, body, chassis...... It would make it easier to search for specific parts and would reduce duplicate posts for common parts such as wheels/tires/engines/tranny..... Thanks again.

That may work, but then again it makes it so you have to go to more places to find things; especially if you are looking for multiple items. And the seller has to track more threads. What may be better, IMO, would be for the buyers/sellers to be a little more descriptive in their title/subject. Especially identifying whether they are buying or selling. And even more important would be for them to have their location in their settings. It wastes a lot of messaging trying to find out where they are. When possible I prefer to pick up items and meet board members. And finally for them to close a thread when all of the items have been purchased.

I agree people need to be more descriptive. But, when searching, most people only look at the first page, so you end up with everybody competing to stay there (i.e. bump/ttt, and I'm guilty too). If you just thread the parts down to specific categories, it would be no different than the way the "trucks for sale" is set up by year, JMHO.

PARTS
F/S WTB
ENG TRANNY ... BODY SUSPENSION .....

parts

I love this board. I honestly think it has too many sections now. I liked it better when the trucks were in the parts section. Now I have to look at multiple sections. It would break it up too much in my opinion.

I agree with Rick and Burnsman. I don't think the parts section would be improved if it is sub-categorized. I do however agree that if you are selling, it should be mandatory that you let everyone know where you are located. .......Jerry

Talking

I don't think that it takes that long to go through the parts the way it is set up now. It certainly would be improved if Rick's suggestions were used by board members, especially, where the parts are located.

I am afraid if parts were broken down into catagories, it would be more confusing and take longer because of parts not catagorized correctly.

*EDITED, someone jumped in before I could finish typing

W/ the last 3 posters, biggest gripe I have is Location, for large parts that
can't be shipped, or will cost an arm and a leg to ship, why is that so hard
to post in your thread title, much less to go under "USER CP" and fill it in

I'm with the majority here on this thread, I think there are to many sections already, I liked it better before when the trucks for sale was in the parts section.

I love this board a lot for a ton of reasons but the FS and parts areas are frustrating. Can the location be made a requirement in the parts board logic?

I'm not talking about saying it is required and then dealing with those who don't comply via a moderator, I'm talking about PROGRAMMING!

If there was a separate field that says, "location" at the top of the dialog box where you enter the text about the items for sale (I'm only talking within the FS areas) you could possibly screen out those entries where people forget to enter their location by making that field mandatory before the post is submitted--sort of a blocking manuver. You know..IF location entry = null THEN stop and display (another dialog box).

Maybe the system is not that flexible--just a suggestion.

I stopped shopping at another k5 site because the for sale section is broken into a million forums(well you get the picture).
We go to junkyards to search for that surprise part. We to go swap meets to find that treasure unexpectedly. I see the parts forum as the same. Interesting, never know what will show up and no need to page through multiple forums where post may be mis-listed anyways.
Please don't .

I agree on not breaking it down.

I would like to see classified broken down into:

For Sale / Wanted / auction-ebay

And do away with 'Trucks for sale' and they would go into FOR SALE.

What do you guys think?

Breaking down the parts boards into subcatagories would create more issues in the long run. It would take ALOT of time and work to keep it organized and posts moved etc, as well as adding confusion to those not familiar with message boards.

The reason the trucks for sale was added was the large amounts of requests for it by members who were trying to sell trucks. With the huge amount of parts for sale listed daily, people with trucks ads were getting burried within a day.

Being as discriptive as possible in titles helps alot. If you are scanning the parts boards and see 69 stuff for sale that can be anything anywhere.. its alot easier on the potential buyer when a title says all it can ( such as 69 lwb bed f/s N.C)

On another truck site I help moderate, we have three sections, FOR SALE, WANTED and AUCTION.

This works great, items are easy to find depending on if you want to buy or sell and moderating them is very easy

Not many people like change, but sometimes it actually helps and makes things easier. This is especially true since the search feature is currently disabled. Why would you prefer to surf through the entire classified section when you want to sell something and you could just go to the WANTED section?

Regarding location, making it mandatory doesn't work. We went down that road twice.
It is an option in the users profile. If the seller does not use it one of the first questions asked in the thread is 'where are you located'
Personally, it isn't a big enough issue to pursue IMO. If a buyer is serious about the part, they will contact the seller and find out.

Just my $.02
