tires and lift help plez

can anyone tell me how much of a lift i need to get 33" and 35" tires under a 1984 chev 4x4 with out having rubbing problems??

From what I've heard, a six inch lift should be good enough for even 35's on a 73-87 GM.

I moved ya over here to the 4x4 board..
I've heard both..
You could have 35x 12.50's with a 4" but might still hitthe fenders..33's would fit fine with a 4" Heck even a 2"(re arched front springs and Add a leaf in the rear..

A 6" would be the safest.. for 35", but you'll have alot more stuff to modify going with a 6" driveshafts, brakelines..

A lot will depend on your wheels and their offset. I ran a 33x12.50 all terrain on 8" rally wheels on my 84 Silverado with no lift and never had any problems. I used it this way for several years and the guy I sold it to is still running it that way. I should mention that I never really had it in a bind off road.

Im running 35's under a 4" lift myself with no probs so far but I also havent had it hardcore wheeling yet either since then

thanks for the info guys, going to run 33 12.50 16.5 : on 10" wheels i think 35 are going to be hard to turn i think and going with a 2.5" lift i think at least thats the plan once again thanks for the info. trying to find guys in ontario with parts for sale as i live near ottawa.

Yeah, 4" should be fine for 35"s. You just got to decide if you want to run 33"s or 35"s.

How much tire you can run depends on 3 things... tire width, wheel offset, & lift. You can run a taller, narrower tire w/ no lift than the same height, wider tire.

For example (this works on most other 4x4s other than just mine)...

I run 36" tires which are 11.50 wide w/ a 4" lift. To run a 36" tire which is 14.50 wide requires a 6" lift w/ a lot of fender trimming or an 8" lift w/ the same fender trimming I have (almost none). Also, you can run a taller tire if it is kept under the fenders (i.e., very little positive offset, 0 offset or negative offset) than if you run the same size tire w/ lots of positive offset (movin' the tire out away from the axle). The right width & offset wheel can make the difference between bein' able to run a tall tire or havin' to settle w/ something shorter & wider.

be careful offroading with 16.5 tires, they dont have the grip on the bead that a 15 or 16 inch wheel has, and if you air your tires down without beadlocks you are just asking for trouble. they would do fine as pavement pounders

well maybe i won't run 16.5 in that case, ill try to find 15" whells that are 10 or 12" wide then maybe 16" rims but 15" are more popular.

My .02

33's with a 4" lift work fine even off road
35's, I'd go with a 6" lift for any kind of 4x4ing

I've run both 8" & 10" wheels without issue's both sizes had a 4" back spacing

I did run 35's on a stock 78 3/4 ton 4x4 but it was close.
