50th Longhorn Original Wheel and Tire
I am working on "driveability" items and had to change the rearend oil...got to protect that Detroit locker! I pulled the spare and noticed it was the original and still had some air in it. I had to clean it up to see what it will look like when I am done with the stock resto. Those tall skinny Uniroyal Fleet Carriers on split rims are kind of cool...different look!

Hey...you guys should be out enjoying this nice weather...watching the hydros! I am doing yard work today and trying to get the Longhorn so I can go pick up some parts!
Mark, Can the short wheelbase truck be towed on a dolly or will I need a trailer. My trailer guy with the big hauler will not be back until Tuesday! Did you pick up your black truck '72 yet?

Just curious, I've seen split rims mentioined many times before, and I don't know what they are. It looks like the center of the rim is only connected with the outer ring in a few spots, is this right and is that what a split rim is? If so, then I don't understand what is heavy duty about them. I would seem to me that a one peice rim would be stronger.

The rim is solid except for the lock ring that goes around the whole rim and snaps into a groove in the wheel. I don't know if they're stronger than 1 piece rims, but when you have the old school 8 ply tires on it, it'll have a higher load range than tubeless radial tires. I think the factory 7.5-16's had a load range of about 2750lbs for each tire. I had two of 'em on the back of my truck with a 1000lb welding machine in the bed so that brought the trucks weight up to about 6000lbs and they held up good.
