I'M IN TROUBLE! Got new engine/tranny for my truck!

You know. I'm scared and so excited at the same time.

I just won my new engine on eBay. I wasn't expecting to win. I bid 50ยข over the starting bid 3 hours before the auction was over. I decided: if I get sniped, it was not meant to be; if I win, it is meant to be.

Here's a link to the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7991106819

The description:
"You are bidding on a complete takeout LS1 engine/transmission combination from a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 with only 47000 miles (title provided for verification at buyer request). If you have been looking for a setup like this you will not find a better one anywhere. Damage to the vehicle was not severe and the engine/transmission are in perfect running condition. This is the same engine found in 2001-2002 Camaro Z28, SS, Trans Am, WS6, 1997-2004 Corvette and 2004 GTO. Water pump, alternator, power steering pump, pedal assembly (if requested), upgraded Z06 slave cylinder, motor mounts, A/C compressor, EGR, starter, engine wiring harness, LS6 intake, exhaust manifolds, MAF, throttle body and PCM. This combination has the performance T-56 manual 6 speed transmission. This combination is perfect as a replacement or for anyone looking for a nice swap into their hot rod. A similar GM crate setup with all these accessories could easily exceed $9000+ so this is a great deal. Feel free to ask any questions about this setup. Both the engine and transmission were fully inspected after removal and found to be in good condition. When shipped engine/transmission will be connected and ready to drop in your vehicle."

I bought it from a place called "Central Florida Motor Works"
My contact's email: m1a2drvr (-at-) yahoo.com
He goes by 'spacecoastmotorworks' on eBay
I'll report back to everyone when the package arrives and let everyone know how it goes.

PS - if anyone knows some things I should ask for in addition, please let me know.

Things I know I need:
Factory airbox (for now)
Electric fans setup
Clutch pedal and other hydraulic stuff

I'll need to have the custom driveshaft made. Can't ask the seller for that though

I AM JEALOUS. I want a WS6 Ask for everything under the sun! If it's under the hood, take it, especially the throttle and pedal. Now your gonna need a blazer tank with an electric fuel pump I don't see the shifter for the tranny, make sure they toss that in! Not sure where it is on the car, but make sure you get the O2 sensors. I think it may be that thing on the pipe coming off the manifold, but some vehicles it's lower.

sweet deal, I use to own a 99 camaro ss and it had a ls1. I sold it to my sister and she ended up (3 years ago) blowing the motor. Man, was she mad at me, she figured I sold her POS because she couldn't find an engine in Canada. It ended up costing her 15 g's for another engine.

I remember thinking to myself, what a great set up the ls1/6spd would be in the 55 or PU.

Good score

Here's one I gotta figure out ....

I think the LS6 intake uses forced induction, right? How will I work around that one? I can't really pipe anything from the front grille. Aarrggghhh!

Isn't that more than you paid for the truck?

Oh wait a minute, the $150 I paid for a 292 is more than I paid for the truck its intended for too. Carry on.

Hehe, I thought you meant real forced induction and couldn't figure out what you were talking about (I don't remember any super or turbo charged LSx motors stock!). All you need is a pipe and conical filter to attach to the throttle body, I don't think it matters if it came from a ram air car or not.

No it doesn't need any kind of ram air. All 2001 and 2002 F-bodies recieved the LS6 intake. All you need is a better cam to take advantage of the top end on that motor especially with the LS6 intake. Look for a mid to high 22X/22X with 570<600 lift range and you should really wake it up. You would be alot better off doing it now when the motor is out. A smaller but great cam is the 02+ Z06 cam/springs. I can get those for 200 shipped to you with very low milage, in the 2-8K range.

Take a look at the dual speed electric fans from a 3.8 Ford Taurus, they almost bolt right in, have a good shroud, and with the dual speed fans, they'll cool that V8 real well.

I used the factory F-body LS1 fans. I would highly reccomend them if you can get them. They only go for around a hundred bucks used.

Yeah, and they fit great, too.

Don't worry about the stock airbox, so long as you have the MAF - the stock one really doesn't (IMO) work very well in our engine bays. I used the inlet elbow from a 2004 GTO, put that directly on the TB, with the MAF on the other end, and a K&N directly on the MAF.

Fuel...I don't know if the '01 uses it, but the '00 mine is from used a 'returnless' fuel rail at the engine, so your regulator should be somewhere else in the system. I used a GM combination filter/regulator (it's for either the '97 or '98 Corvette, I don't recall at the moment) to take care of this. Also, I'm using the stock tank, with an external Walbro GSL392 mounted on the framerail.

Thanks for the tips guys, and please keep 'em coming.

The ebayer I bought it from is taking a little while getting back to me, so I'm getting a little nervous. :\ All I want to know is calculation on shipping and to get another bill statement.

I'm still not sure about that, Jim. I know I have a couple of options. Most people I've been looking at are either using a blazer tank + in-tank fuel pump or a fuel cell with a fuel pump on the framerail. I don't know which is better, how many gpm fuel pump I'll need, how far from the tank an external unit would need to be, whether I'd need two pumps, etc.

I guess that's just one of those things I'll hafta tackle when I get there. This is not going to be a quick install - I expect it to take at least 3-6 months to complete, whether I like it or not.

The fun things to figure out for me will probably be:
- What position to put the engine in + custom tranny x-member construction
- Fuel delivery (and return? i think these engines have a bypass or overflow or something?)
- The pedals and their action (gas and hyrdraulic clutch, gas pedal is reversed action or whatever)
- Cooling setup (electric fans, radiator)
- Wiring and programming
- Getting new gauges
- Getting the new driveshaft built

These are all things I'm not too clear on right now, and I've still got to get clear on. I guess the important thing is I've got the setup in wait...so I gotta focus on getting it home.
