68' K10 rear spring question

My truck is a 68 and doesn't have the right springs. I also have a 72' 4x4 for parts. From what I have read on here and in parts books I believe there is a difference between the 68' springs and 72. Does anybody know what is different, or if they will fit?

the diference is the location of the spring centering pin. i.e. the axle is not located close to the center of the spring front to rear, the 72 springs are.

1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

hey my '68 rear springs are 56 inches long and '72s are 52 inch right?

yep, but those 56" springs(68) are not the same as the 73 and up 56" rear spring on some high GVWR 3/4 ton trucks.

yeah, i know. my truck only has 2 rear leaves in its spring pack and i dont need alot of weight bearing capacity because the only thing i ever tow is my fishin boat. it rides like a caddy. most people who see my truck assume it rides rough and cant believe how compliant it is. i had a '71 GMC 3/4ton 4x4 and it road like a steamroller unless it was loaded. so, can i use the later model springs on mine for a lift or should i keep my springs and do a shackle flip?

You won't be able to use the later springs on your 68 because of the centering pin location. It is dead center on your 68, and off-set towards the front shackle on the later model springs. You would have to relocate the spring hangers (to keep your axle centered in the wheel opening) to use the later springs.

ORD or Off Road Design makes a zero rate leaf with multiple hole locations to move your axle on the leaf either 1" or 1 1/2". It will add 1" of height to the rear when installing these. They work great for centering the axle and taking the rear droop out of a 69-72 Blazer
